8/ So, yeah, maybe inflation is a good thing, as long as it comes with corresponding wage increases for working Americans, even if that means higher prices over all. Maybe a repricing of our economy is exactly what we need. /end

7/ I dunno, it's just weird that we're supposed to accept as economic orthodoxy the necessary pain of a Fed interest rate hike induced recession and the joblessness it will bring, while any amount of pain from a bout of inflation is unquestionably unacceptable.

6/ In fact, it's fair to argue that over the long run a higher wage/higher cost economy would have been far more resilient and far less volatile than the efficiency-fetish economy in which we are in.

5/ And surely, had our global supply chain not been so efficient and global and cheap, perhaps we'd still have enough domestic economic capacity to prevent a global supply chain crisis from pushing domestic prices up so high so fast and for so long?

4/ Surely, much of the precarity in our current economy is the consequence of the relentless drive towards the kind of market "efficiencies" that are often credited with keeping prices low.

3/ Surely, decades of relatively low fuel prices have led to the popularity of inefficient SUVs and other large carbon emitting vehicles, while the recent spike in fuel prices has provided a major push to zero-carbon energy technologies.

2/ I mean, nobody likes to pay higher prices, but surely the consumer preference for low prices has played a major role in suppressing wages, particularly at the low end of the pay scale, as well as in pushing better paying manufacturing jobs overseas.

1/ An unpopular take on inflation, but hear me out: Maybe the prices of many goods and services have long been too LOW?

Think about this: because there's no tip penalty in WA, Seattle's minimum wage for tipped employees will be nearly NINE TIMES the federal $2.13 an hour (unchanged since 1991), and yet our restaurant and hotel industry is suffering from a labor shortage.
