For a while on Reddit I've noticed people really hating the idea of "credit." Yet personally I've only ever had good things to say about it. I always pay the full statement on time. I also make sure never to spend more then I'm willing to pay, while its technically not my money, I do owe back on it at the end of the statement and know better then to go over 25 percent the best I can. I also noticed people will go crazy and max out their cards thinking it wont hurt them in the long run then they turn around and wonder why they are piled on with debt and then blame the system itself, rather then taking the time to understand the basics of what credit is.

I do acknowledge its not a completely flawless system. I can understand there are predatory practices with Credit Card companies out there. But overall its been nothing but good for me since it gives me not only a high credit score but also hundreds of dollars in rewards spending every year.

Edit: Forgot to mention something. It also allows an extra layer of security. If your credit card information gets stolen and used, the credit card companies will take care of it for you since its THEIR money. Where as if it was your debit card..well good luck lol.

Edit 2: I noticed people keep bringing up "Credit card fees" that merchants have to account for. But isnt that the simple cost of doing business? Even Debit has fees (Though not as much obviously.) I feel like the "fee" issue is a completely different topic though since there are many "fees" out there that really shouldnt be fees but merchants get away with it anyways like "Convenience fees" or "service fees" that are randomly tacked on for online purchases.

Edit 3: Lots of great discussion! I believe the post is starting to wind down now though. It was nice seeing a lot of well informed people talk about this subject as well. My mind has not changed but it was good to see what others felt on the topic of Credit as a whole.

I have been noticing a trend recently , mostly online, of a loud minority of trans women stepping on toes when it comes to integrating with cis or afab women. Some examples of this include:

-Insisting that trans women have periods, and calling anyone who points out that this is impossible "transphobic".

  • Insisting that afab women be referred to and labeled as 'ciswomen', and calling them transphobic for not wanting this label. While insisting that trans women just be referred to as 'women'.

-Referring to mothers as "birthing persons" and breast feeding as "chestfeeding" to be "inclusive".

  • Insisting that the idea of binary sex is a myth.

These are just some examples. It seems to me that some trans women feel the need to redefine womanhood to validate themselves. The most telling thing is that we do not see trans men doing this. They have not seemed to feel any need to go in an redefine manhood to fit their experience. Yet some transwomen seem to feel that in order for them to feel valid in their identity they need to bully others into conforming to their needs. This to me feels clearly indicative that certain traits remain with people even after they transition.

So while I believe that trans women are women and deserved to be welcomed with open arms I do beleive that these ones who are pushing for these things have begun to overstep their bounds. And I think this comes from misogyny. Many trans women grew up and were socialized as boys or men, with this comes a sense of entitlement to women. I think that some trans women have transitioned and failed to leave their misogyny behind, this has left them feeling entitled to women's spaces, issues, problems, and womanhood as a whole. They feel it is thier right to come in and redefine them to fit their emotional needs. And they become bullies when they are told they can't do that.

I realize that some people may feel this makes me Transphobic or a TERF. But this seems to be glaringly obvious to me and I'm wondering if there something I'm missing or not considering. I do not want to be transphobic, I do want to be a good ally. But not at the expense of women.

I believe that all (or as many as reasonably possible) non-highway streets should be one-way only. I moved from New York to Los Angeles and found the one-way streets in New York to be better in all ways for both drivers and pedestrians.

In Los Angeles, where nearly all roads are two-way:

  • Drivers can spend tons of time waitingto make left hand turns at lights. Often, there are streets that are very busy in both directions, and only a few cars can make left turns (most of them illegally, after the light turns red) each time the light changes. I have had times where I've been in a line of only 15 cars or so waiting to make a left and it took 10+ minutes. Some lights have left-turn arrows. These help, but make the light stay red longer for everyone.

  • Making a left turn onto a busy street (or proceeding through that street) if there's not a light can be downright impossible (and extremely unsafe).

  • In general, making a left turn (crossing oncoming traffic) is less safe, as the speed of oncoming traffic can be difficult to judge.

  • On many streets, cars are permitted to park on both sides of the road, and there's simply not enough room for two cars (going opposite directions) to pass by each other safely. I believe there have been instances of serious traffic jams caused because there was not enough room for cars to pass or maneuver in a way to let other cars past them. I have also heard of accidents caused because each driver thought the other would pull to the side in a space in between parked cars.

  • For pedestrians who are jaywalking, crossing traffic in only one direction is much easier and safer than needing to worry about both directions. Some streets are such that walking to a crosswalk is so far that jaywalking is more or less necessary (but I understand opposition to this argument given that it's illegal - still, legal or not, it's going to happen).

  • (Hopefully this makes sense) - For pedestrians crossing the street at a light in a crosswalk, it's safer if the cars making a left turn into them are doing so from the lane closest to the crosswalk. If cars are making a left turn into them from the middle-right lane on a two-way street, they 1) don't have as good visibility into the crosswalk as there are multiple lanes of traffic between them and the pedestrians, and 2) are going to be going faster as they approach the crosswalk, making it more difficult to stop if they didn't see a pedestrian (and if they happen to hit one, they'll be going much faster).

  • For cyclists, bike lanes can be on both sides of the street, again making turns safer.

  • Subjective, I know, but smaller, one-way streets are more aesthetically pleasing than busy multi-lane 2-way streets.

I realize that in some areas, it wouldn't be really feasible to make all roads one-way, because each road doesn't have a "counterpart" that's parallel and close by that could go in the other direction. However I believe a large proportion of roads in more urban areas (Los Angeles is a great example) could be converted to one-way streets.

In terms of traffic, it seems to me that the same volume of cars would be handled - just that it would be redistributed. For example, if there were 10 parallel east-west streets, each with two driving lanes, previously each street would have one lane going east (10 lanes total) and one lane going west (10 lanes total). If they were all one-way streets, 5 streets would have two lanes going east (10 lanes total) and 5 streets would have two lanes going west (10 lanes total).
