Posts about Cardano
What's up Cardano! Have been seeing some people commenting on the Daily Discussion threads right here in our home r/Cardano, and how they are very low traffic at this time. If you look at any of the most recent ones, the engagement is usually five comments or less. Incidentally, sometimes even those are just meta-comments about how there is no one really using the daily threads.
After speaking with people in those threads, and other members of the Cardano community, I wanted to put forward a proposal to rethink the daily, and maybe change things up a bit to make it more interesting and fun:
Schedule: instead of copying and pasting (or auto-scheduling) the same text for the daily everyday, make it into a weekly or every epoch general discussion thread. This will be a good way for people to keep up with some general conversation happening in the community, and for people to come back and talk shop on all things Cardano.
Post Content: In addition to the standard text for a daily thread, a Week of April 20th or Epoch 410 thread (for example) could include a list of interesting events or important dates happening in the world of Cardano during that time. For example:
Happening this Epoch:
Date | Event | Link |
---|---|---|
April 20, 2020 | Project Catalyst Voting Begins | linktoawesomestuff(.)io |
April 21, 2020 | Lace Mobile Release | iLace(.)io |
April 22, 2020 | Cardano Summit - London | ADAlondon(.)io |
April 23, 2020 | FutureFest Live Event | yaysuperfun(.)io |
April 24, 2020 | Awesome Hackathon Begins | l33th4ck3r(.)io |
For what might be included in this, we could encourage people in the thread to make a comment if they have something interesting coming up that they want added into the next Weekly/Epoch thread. "Do you have something interesting coming up? Let us know below! Provide the name, date, a single, relevant link" This might be optimal rather than an off-reddit Google form -> Spreadsheet -> Reddit post approach. It's less backend work, people in the comments can ask questions to those hosting or involved with those events, and everyone could see who submits what to share with the subreddit community. This doesn't have to be a comprehensive overview of literally everything in the ecosystem, but rather, and more specifically, a highlight of the types of things people using the subreddit are interested in talking about or sharing.
User Comments: Allow the posting of images from reddit users in the comments to make the interactions more interesting and fun. This would be subreddit-wide, but would make the daily perhaps more engaging. Media in comments can be set up in the mod settings under Settings > Posts and Comments > Media in Comments.
Future Changes:
Of course, if we start to get a lot of everyday users of r/Cardano again, then it might be worthwhile to revert everything back into a daily thread when needed. But for the time being, I think it might be worthwhile to rethink how everyday engagement happens here, and the general discussion threads seem like a great place to start.
TL:DR:
Very low engagement numbers in the current Daily Threads.
Change up the daily thread to make it more periodical every week or every epoch.
Have it be a quick reference point for things happening all around Cardano during that time.
Encourage people to participate more by sharing different things happening, and enjoy the comment sections with things like pictures and gifs.
Could be reverted to a daily if/when user engagement returns to more active numbers.
These are just some ideas - what do you think would be a meaningful change to make if any?
Greetings Beautiful Cardano!
I am making a post to encourage the community, as well as those involved in official Cardano organizations, to make an effort to rethink, revise, and improve the Moderation Team of the official Cardano subreddit, r/Cardano.
For some time, people have expressed frustration at the moderation policies of this forum. As the largest online representation of the Cardano community on reddit, it is home to over 600K subscribers, and is often the first-stop destination for redditors when they want to check out the Cardano ecosystem.
I made a post today around 10:30am EST, which are peak Reddit hours for traffic, and are well-known as the best time periods to post content on the site and have it be seen. However, after nearly six hours, this post (concerning a new Cardano Foundation partnership with HOSKY and the United Nations Refugee Agency) remains unapproved.
As I have personally encountered these types of frustrations in the past, I thought it was important to examine the mod team, and look into how active they are on the platform.
As can be seen in this breakdown of the first page* of current Moderation team, the majority of the team are no longer active in the r/Cardano subreddit, and some no longer active on Reddit at all. In other words, the people who run Cardano's subreddit aren't even redditors. The only exception to this is u/SL13PNIR, who is in charge of posting the Daily Discussion threads, and has been active in comments with subscribers to the subreddit. Very cool to see!
*EDIT: Thank you to u/dominatingslash for pointing out the additional page of moderators for this subreddit. I generally use old.reddit, and missed the pagination at the top right making this post with new.reddit*
The remaining moderators on the second-page of admins have a very similar theme as the first. Many have not been active in the subreddit this year, with the exceptions of u/dominatingslash, and u/danny_cryptofay, who have done really amazing work on a consistent basis. Meanwhile, there are others tasked with the curation of this forum who have never made a single post or comment in the community.
As this subreddit community is so large, I believe that the Moderation team should be improved to include members of our community who are more active, both on reddit and in the Cardano ecosystem as a whole. The burden of content moderation should not have to fall on a small team of still-active moderators on the team.
There was a previous Cardano Forum post about the ownership of the subreddit, but it seems nothing has come from it to date.
The coming years will see a returning interest in cryptocurrencies as market conditions change, and bull runs will bring a bunch of new eyes to blockchain and the Cardano ecosystem in particular. In order for us to be fully prepared for an influx of new users, as well as to improve the curation, promotion, and conversations in our ecosystems, the restructuring of the r/Cardano moderation team is an imperative.
I am curious to know your thoughts on this regard, and if anyone has some ideas as to how we might start to make these improvements. Thank you very kindly on your time, and hope you keep cooking on Cardano!
