I'm a structural analysis engineer in the aerospace industry and have been using excel/ VBA scripts for analysis, extracting data from the finite element model, manipulating data, and sharing my analysis results with my co-workers. I commonly use FEMAP's built in API in combination with excel VBA to do some programming to build some custom tools to help speed up repetitive FEM tasks.

I keep reading on reddit that python is valuable for engineers to learn, especially in analysis roles. Here's the thing though...Almost everything I do usually needs to be output to an excel spreadsheet for other engineers to read and review. My deliverables to the customer need to be calculated in a spreadsheet for traceability. If i deliver a python script no one is easily going to be able to review my analysis. Excels speed has never been an issue for me and I hardly ever process enough data to where I run out of rows and columns in excel. Why spend the time to learn python when my work needs to be transferable to other engineers who operate in excel? For me, python seems like an extra step I would need to do just to get the data back into a spreadsheet.
