I have three children. My two year old was on the waitlist for an appointment with paediatrician.

I got a call to say they had a cancellation appointment. In 30 minutes time. The rooms are 20 minutes away from where we live.

I got all three children ready and out the door and in the car in ten minutes! Wining.

The kids wanted to throw on their leotards as that’s their favourite outfit. I didn’t protest since- you know, no time to.

I packed warm clothes and snacks in a bag.

When we arrived I was in the middle of putting pants on my two year old (over her leotard) when the rooms rang to say doctor is ready to see us.

I thought “oh well, pantless we go”. my baby was dressed in warm clothes, mittens and booties and a blanket. My five and two year olds were dressed in long sleeve leotards, thick socks, a beanie and shoes.

The paed made such a fuss about toddler being cold.

I explained why she didn’t have warm clothes over the top. She looked at me as if I was making sh*t up.

I felt so embarrassed that I went to the toilets and got my kids fully dressed.

We live in Australia. It was 22 degrees, but inside their rooms it was colder as it’s a big old building with crap heating apparently.

I read the paediatricians notes to the specialist.

“Ava brought in by Mum, wearing a skimpy little leotard, despite it being very cold outside. Ava possibly doesn’t feel the cold”.

My issue is she didn’t document “despite Mum attempting to dress her more warmly”.

My issue is with her calling a gymnastics leotard “skimpy” too.

What would you do?

I bust my guts for my babies and care so much for them. Always the parent with their Sun hats, sunscreen etc at park or the parent with their kids in splash suits and beanies. They’re always dressed well.

Just pissed that now on their medical history it looks like I took my toddler out in the freezing cold in a “skimpy little leotard”.

BA-humbug!
