Welcome back for another edition of In Case You Missed It, our monthly retrospective peeks at the fun and interesting happenings in the Imgur community. We’re rapidly approaching the summer, and it’s almost time for some fun in the sun.
Without further ado, let’s jump right in. (Cannonball!!!!!)
*Nostalgia Day*
The first week of May, we celebrated our best core memories with the nostalgia event. It was the week to stop wondering if you’re out of touch. We all know that it’s the children who are wrong. From classic cars to VHS tapes, Tamagotchis, and more, the fun from our past spent a few days in the spotlight. Millions of Imgurians visited the nostalgia tag to turn back time and recapture the magic of their glory days.
Visit #nostalgia to take a trip down memory lane.
*Hobby Day*
May 16th marked the second annual Hobby Day event. Imgurians from around the globe shared skills and pastimes of all kinds, making for a magnificent celebration of creativity.
Thousands of Imgurians took to the Hobby tag to share their creations, and millions more appreciated the talent on display as spectators. There was pottery, sculptures, cosplay, jewelry, sewing, woodwork, and more. The imagination of the Imgur community knows no bounds.
See some of the incredible creations you missed on the #hobby tag!
*Imgurian Cookbook*
The Imgurian Cookbook is a collection of recipes created by Imgurians for Imgurians. A few dedicated denizens of User Submitted started a tradition that would eventually be embraced by Imgur staff and made official. Hundreds of Imgurians added their own pages to the cookbook by sharing their recipes. From fresh-baked bread to succulent soups, traditional dishes, and everything in between, cooking will connect us all through our kitchens as we create and recreate recipes of all kinds.
Next time you’re in the mood for some new food, take a recipe from the #imgurian_cookbook!
*365 Days of Cheeseburgers*
One year ago, Imgurian Crypto embarked on a mission to grace our feeds with a daily dose of cheeseburgers. After 365 consecutive days of deliciousness, we can consider the mission accomplished. As the days passed, more and more Imgurians took notice of this tradition and began to look forward to these posts. Wanting to take the second-hand dining experience to the next level, Imgurian OhBoyDoIHaveNews4U decided to map out the locations provided and share them with the community.
Go to @crypto’s profile for some gooey goodness, or visit the burger map to see if one is near you!
*Can’t Have Too Many Cacti!*
Earlier this month, the aptly named Cactusjerk shared a slice of their life with the community. As a cactus cultivator, he cares for hundreds of plants and has a plan for them all. In a very informative post, he detailed many different types of cactus and the quirks of dealing with them day-to-day. You can catch Cactusjerk defying the second half of his username by offering advice to novice growers in the comments of his prickly posts, fielding questions from curious passers-by, and putting out positive vibes.
*Imgurian Marriage*
What started as a chance interaction on a funny gif culminated in the ultimate connection between two Imgurians. A shared sense of snark drew the two together and ignited the spark between them. In Bunniestbunny’s announcement of their union, they gave thanks to Hye1901 for putting them on the path to meet their partner. And to think people say memes are just for wasting time! This meme was responsible for a marriage, and that’s more than most content can claim.
*Silly Human, Trix are for Ants!*
Imgurian ButtersTheCat saw a meme making a bold claim about the behavior of ants in relation to Trix cereal. In regular Imgurian fashion, he took it upon himself to test those claims. Why? For science, of course. In a series of riveting posts, thousands of Imgurians watched with bated breath as the experiment unfolded. The testing methodologies varied, from digging moats and filling them with cooking oil to dumping the cereal directly into the hole. The ants reacted in many ways, the strangest being a complete evacuation of one of the holes.
*Best Worst Date*
Sometimes you need a second opinion to put things in perspective. As a member of the Imgur community, you have access to millions of them. Imgurian 0xEF tapped this resource to better understand why their recent date seemed to go wrong. After detailing the night and asking for advice, hundreds of Imgurians took to the comments offering their support and potential explanations for why things turned out the way they did.
Several eagle-eyed Imgurians suggested that his date may be neurodivergent and not project emotions in a way he was familiar with. This conclusion ended up being exactly right. The community urged him to make further contact to clarify – – the best decision he could have made. Twenty-three responses later, they were set up for a second date!
Stop by their follow-up post to see how things turned out!
*Seattle Culinary Academy*
For 81 years, the Seattle Culinary Academy has kickstarted the careers of thousands of chefs. As a graduate of the academy herself, Imgurian ClassicShay claims to owe her success and career to the program. The academy not only teaches culinary skills but also instills sustainability, heritage, and health values in its students. The academy is in danger of being shut down and will be considered a major loss to the culinary community.
Of the many reasons to preserve the program, the opportunities given to low-income applicants and the diversity on display are paramount. Kindhearted Imgurians signed petitions and donated in support of the program. We are happy to report that the academy is safe for one more year! With that said, there is still work to do for it to continue operating long term
