Every morning, the promise of that first cup of coffee is the only motivation that can get us out of bed. When we finally get our hands around that dark hot mug, immediately the aroma has a mood-altering effect. The first sip? Bliss. The world comes into focus, and we can begin our day.
Let us not take our coffee for granted, and give thanks to the life-sustaining black nectar of the gods on this day, National Coffee Day.
How are we celebrating, you ask? For one, I’d encourage you to indulge in an extra cup from your favorite coffee location. For two, there’s a dedicated coffee topic on Imgur, filled to the brim with delectable posts.
Let us start the day with a love poem, an ode to coffee.
How do I love coffee? Let me count the ways.
I love coffee to the depth and breadth and height
My mug can reach, when feeling out of sight…
I love coffee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, I love coffee with bad breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! and, if God choose,
I shall but love coffee better after death.
Now we’ve got that out of the way, let’s learn more about our favorite beverage.
From humble beginnings to works of art, coffee can come in many forms.
A barista who I follow on tumblr did this LOTR art on a caramel latte
It can also be a status symbol.
No one knows quite where the magical benefits of coffee exactly comes from…
…although scientists are desperately trying to work it out
But even dogs seem to have discovered its powers.
Of course, some people prefer tea.
Those people are wrong.
So sit back and relax, and enjoy more coffee.
