I was thinking about some NFL single-season records recently, like passing yards or receiving touchdowns, and thought I'd provide some of my input into a discussion of who's the most likely to break each of these records:

Passing Yards - Record of 5,477 yards by Peyton Manning in 2013;

This record has managed to stay alive for nearly a decade after Manning destroyed defenses with a potent Broncos offense. The top contenders for this are Patrick Mahomes (who had 5,250 last year), Joe Burrow (with 3 legit wide receivers), and Justin Herbert (social media star with a cannon arm, had just over 5k in 2021). This record will fall soon with the extra game.

Passing Touchdowns - Record of 55 TD's by Peyton Manning in 2013;

What a season Manning had - jeez! Averaging over 3.4 touchdowns a game was legendary, but the addition of an extra game gives hope that this record can be beat. The top contenders are Patrick Mahomes (his high is 50 back in 2018) and Joe Burrow (see above). Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson use their legs too often in the redzone to convert the number of passing TD's needed, and no other top QB has the volume needed to score at this rate.

Rushing Yards - Record of 2,105 yards by Eric Dickerson in 1984;

This record was nuts even back in a rush-first league, and is unlikely to ever be broken. If I had to name names, though, I would consider Nick Chubb (top rusher on an offense likely to feed him more than ever), Josh Jacobs (led the league last year and Jimmy G would love for him to do so again), and Saquon Barkley (looking for big $, hoping to stay healthy).

Rushing Touchdowns - Record of 28 TD's by LaDainian Tomlinson in 2006;

Another unlikely record to ever be broken, LT took the league by storm in 2006. My contenders would be Saquon Barkley (see above), Derrick Henry (not quite the big threat he was, but still a top goal-line back), and Josh Jacobs (see above).

Receiving Yards - Record of 1,964 yards by Calvin Johnson in 2012;

I'm amazed that this record is still standing, though it's a testament to Megatron how great that season was. Stafford to CJ resulted in a lot of monster plays... but too few TD's. Nonetheless, Justin Jefferson (1,809 last year), Tyreek Hill (1,710 last year), and Ja'Marr Chase (1,046 last year due to injury) are the likely candidates to break this record. I'm thinking Jetta goes by JJ2k here soon.

Receiving Touchdowns - Record of 23 by Randy Moss in 2007;

In a magical season for the undefeated (almost) New England Patriots, Moss was straight Mossing people for TD's left and right. This record is going to be tough to beat, but Justin Jefferson (huge volume despite his limited TD's thus far), Travis Kelce (Mahomes #1 target by a wide margin), and Davante Adams (Jimmy G to Adams doesn't sound too bad, especially with the lack of other top options) are my choices.

Who do you think breaks the next big record? Do any of these records seem unbreakable?
