I’m still in high school and never had to sit down and study all that much. Sure for AP tests I have, but I didn’t retain a lot of that information following the test. Also I’m not used to doing practical assessments; I’ve only ever did a practical assessment in health class and that’s probably way different from EMT class.

So my question is, how did you study for EMT class? Did you study everyday for a few minutes or just right before the big test? How did you study for practical tests vs. written tests?

Also, what supplies did you use? I’m thinking of a subject notebook and a binder but I’m not sure if there’s a better option 😅

Why do we look, listen, and feel during primary assessment of medical patients?

This is in regards to the B of ABCs. What can you feel that you can’t see or hear?

For trauma patients, inspect, palpate, auscultate makes sense to me because they don’t know what’s wrong or have AMS.

Career Advice

To those who work for ATCEMS…

Been an EMT for a little over a year and want to be a medic somewhere that has progressive practices, a (good) union, and “good” pay/benefits.

I hear a lot about ATCEMS. Looking at the careers/benefits webpage, I’m trying to figure out how much paid vacation time you get a year. 7.5 hours/pay period times 24 pay periods/year is 7.5 days. Is that right? Do you have to use the paid sick leave time, too?

On top of that, if you work there, what do you like/don’t like?

How expensive is Austin, really?

Beginner Advice

Enrolled for Summer EMT-B class and it’s already way too much!

I want to become a firefighter and the only thing I need right now is the EMT-B certification. I wanted to get it done and over with but now I am regretting taking the summer class because it’s Monday-Thursday from 5PM-10PM and I feel like I’m drowning with so much information thrown in my face and with no medical background, I really don’t know how to get it down. I work full time and even have work on Friday and Saturday’s which leaves me a little time time to study and all day Sunday. I’m not confident in my self for passing. A part of me is thinking to just take the regular course at a hospital that only meets 2 days a week. Which would give me plenty of time to digest and study the material better. Anyone have these experiences?

Testing / Exams

NYS EMT-B exam tomorrow

Hey guys the title is pretty self explanatory but I’m just feeling really nervous. I finished my course on May 14 and am just worried I’m going to fail tomorrow; I haven’t been the best at keeping up my studying and retention of all the knowledge because I’ve also been studying for my LSAT in august. Any tips/pointers on what I should do? What to study, format of the test, anything helps to alleviate this stress lol

NREMT - National Registry of EMTs
