There's lots of talk out there about working through trauma via dark fanfiction. I'm not saying anything against that - there's nothing wrong with it. But I do think there's an unfortunate implication being made in a lot of those posts. Accidentally or not, the implication being made is that trauma is the reason people enjoy dark content. That there needs to be a justification at all.

Guys, trauma is not the only reason to enjoy dead dove do not eat content. You don't need trauma to justify liking it. You don't need anything to justify liking it. You can just...like it. I get the point of those posts is to stop people from harping on others when they might be digging into said trauma, or harassing others for their coping methods, which is definitely wrong - but let's be clear in our intent and not alienate people that are just here for the fun of it. Let's not make people think they need a reason to enjoy what they do.

You don't need trauma to justify liking dark things. You can just like it and if that's all there is to it, that's perfectly okay.

insufficiently-advanced

horror movies, serial killer documentaries, splatterhouse-type games, etc - these are billion-dollar industries

there is a real, valid, profitable part of the human psyche that loves dark shit when it’s in a situation we can control

what do you think is the appeal of roller coasters? danger, controlled

i don’t give one single solitary shit what your particular dark fic itch is. seriously, i don’t care. it doesn’t matter. yes, even whatever super gross objectionable thing you just thought of - it literally doesn’t matter. unless real, live, non-hypothetical people are hurt in the making of a thing, that’s just how humans be. sometimes we gaze into the abyss, to see if we can handle it when the abyss gazes back.

every time i see discourse about pedohysteria amidst a trans genocide i think about that news article from 2016 about the mexican immigrant who voted for trump because trump said he’d get rid of all the “bad hombres” from mexico, only to be deported himself because it turns out what trump was really saying was that he wanted to deport all mexicans, not just “the bad ones”

not just him, but there were many other examples too, like white conservatives who have mexican immigrant friends and family or people in the community important to them who were mexican immigrants, and they voted for trump because they thought trump was just getting rid of “criminals”, and then they regret it when their families and communities get torn apart by deportations of their spouses, their friends, their favourite restaurant owners, etc.

anyways, i hope young queers, trans people esp, understand that when conservatives talk about “pedophiles” and “groomers”, they’re not talking about actual child abusers, they’re talking about all queer people. they’re talking about all trans people. it’s why in florida, they’re categorizing “drag” as a child sex crime, and making sex crimes against children punishable by death. they’re trying to execute every single trans person, and that’s just the rhetoric they’re using

so stop buying into the pedohysteria. it’s easy to think “well, i’m not a pedophile, so i’ll be safe” when you don’t realize that in the eyes of conservatives, every single queer person is a pedophile and deserves death, and contributing to their rhetoric by trying to figure out which trans woman is a pedophile is just accelerating your own march to the gallows

When I was in school, the argument – and in fact the standard belief – was that no gay person, ever, could be a teacher, because all gay people were pedophiles and groomers. It was for the “safety of children.” Lesbians and gay men couldn’t be allowed in locker rooms with “normal” people because we would ogle and assault them. Every gay, every lesbian, every trans person, every bi person (pan didn’t really exist as a term then) had the assumption of being a sex offender just waiting for an opportunity.

Literally everything they say about trans people now, they said about gay people 30 years ago.

There are people right now in government trying to outlaw gay marriage again, saying that Pete Buttigieg – the human equivalent of a Wonder Bread pb&j sandwich, as wholesome in image as they come – shouldn’t be allowed to raise his children because he’s abusing his children by raising them. People on Twitter have started openly calling for rounding up and executing anyone who ever helped a minor access HRT - parents, doctors, nurses, the receptionist who checked us in for my daughter’s appointments - and while those are only random people online, that isn’t a thing you saw happening frequently just a couple of years ago. Louder voices have started calling for mentally ill people – starting with trans and gay people – to lose our rights to vote.

Do I think queer people are being rounded up right now? No. Do I see the rhetoric escalating? Yes. Is it aimed at all of us? Oh yes.

Groomer, pedo, degenerate, freak: they mean all of us. There are no exceptions. If you think there are, you’re fooling yourself.

Join, or Die.

Decidedly not a positivity post but since I don’t actually care about pissing people off who I don’t want near me, being proship/profic doesn’t excuse being a bigoted asshole. I don’t give a fuck if you’re also into lolisho or fictional incest, we aren’t friends if you’re racist, queerphobic, transphobic or antisemitic etc.

The treatment of real people, your opinions and actions towards real groups of people and individuals, will always be more important than your views on fictional media. It doesn’t matter if you align yourself with proship/profic and say you’re anti-harassment if you hold bigoted and harmful opinions towards real people.

Sometimes people claim to be ‘anti-harassment’, but only in the sense that they think they should be able to spout bigoted harmful opinions without any pushback. Please don’t befriend those people just because they like some of the same content you do. They are not your friend and will ultimately turn on you if you are in a minority group they wish harm on.

There are unfortunate overlaps between people into ‘problematic’ or ‘edgy’ content and them sometimes just being really horrible people. It’s important to make these people know they are unwelcome in proship/profic spaces; it’s so important to protect and listen to lgbtqia+ folk, bipoc, jewish folk and other minority groups in our spaces.

yes the reason i'm proship is because i believe real people matter and fictional people don't real racism and bigotry exists and matters and it's important to fight it

also speaking of flour and industrial scale food production I worked in a factory that produced all your flour and powdered foodstuffs, like pancake mix and powdered milk and flour and such, and like. I love when people talk about capitalism enabling market freedom and choice for the consumer because it's all the same. I worked in those factories - the 10 different brands all make their shit from the exact same sources like in the factory they literally just change the boxes and packaging but other than that it's 100% the same shit. I used to spend 8-10 hours a day cutting open bags of raw ingredients, pouring them into the machinery, and the only step that would change would be the boxes we packaged it in. it's all lies

the thing about “meaningless gore” is that even when it’s apparently not intellectual enough for so many people, it forces the viewer to confront the fact that they are just meat, they are mortal, they can and will eventually die, and pain is part of the human experience that unfortunately none of us will escape experiencing at one point or another. life is both horrifyingly fragile and surprisingly resilient which makes existing in a body a fraught experience regardless of whether we want to acknowledge that or not. “to watch a horror movie is to know that something bad is going to happen. to have a body is really the same thing.” anyway that in and of itself is plenty to grapple with and if a film decides to only deal with that, i don’t think it’s less valuable than any other theme a film might address

1) i’m talking about meaningless gore. that’s basically the point i’m making

2) people are meat bags. that’s basically the point i’m making

3) you don’t have to reblog posts you don’t agree with lmao

yes this 'why have this meaningless violence' because violence is meaningless :> sorry for not giving u an ubermensch fantasy 'was this rape scene necessary' is any rape necessary bitch sometimes something being gratuitious and painful and unkind and unnecessary and not adding anything of value is the point because that's how lots of things ARE

Enough of the trope where memory loss undoes the damage or the corruption or whatever. More content where removing memories just removes the context.

The tragedy of needing to grieve and not knowing what or who you lost or why. The angst of having trauma and being denied the awareness that it's trauma. The suspense of being different somehow and left to wonder how and when. The tension of knowing that something is off and you can't find where it hurts. The Adventure Zone gets it. Kingdom Hearts gets it.

There is an aching inside you and you don't know how it got there.

a significant population of humans are incapable of adapting their systems of balance and direction to microgravity. vomiting is common in microgravity but usually abates after a day or two, but for a significant minority of people it never does.

i think about both this and the irrelevance of dyslexia in a preliterate society when it comes to disability; if the sci-fi futures we dream of were to come true, a lot of people would be extremely dependent on medication and accomodations to work normal jobs, and would otherwise be completely disabled by vomiting and disorientation
