My planet is called Terravi, which is inspired by the Latin word terra, meaning ground. A lot of names I've made are a mishmash of Latin words. Like sylva means woods or forest, so a small forest filled country is named Sylvania.

I've got various dragons (and a race called Draconians who are the humanoid versions of these dragons). One dragon type is called Exsolo, ex meaning out in latin, like driving smth away [see explode etymology], and solo meaning soil in latin. They can create small explosions, and the dragons usually use them to create small caves in the ground to lie in.

I've also got a mostly extinct race of immortals that can control and communicate with nature called Sythrosians, pronounced sith-row-shins. The name is inspired by ancient Greek - ψίθυρος • (psíthyros) m (plural ψίθυροι)

  1. (onomatopoeia) whisper (speaking quietly)

Some of them just came to mind because it felt right - Lextra is a country that's the leading country in regards to advanced technology.

And others still because the name suits the place. Blister Forest is a tropical forest made soley of manchineel trees, and other poisonous plants and animals. Located there is a lagoon called Lethal Lagoon. Deadly for several reasons - the water can burn the skin thanks to run off from the manchineel trees after rain, and there's siren/mermaid people (called Siranhas, mix of the word siren and piranha) who live in it and lure people into the water to eat.

So! What sorts of names do you have? How did you come up with them or decide on them?
