I’ve been thinking about the current state of the gaming industry and what could try and pull it back from what feels like the extremely addictive predatory tactic of forcing people to maintain a daily presence on your game to get the most value from money spent.

I think this is a serious enough issues that regulators should step in and do something about it.

You can’t have warnings on your load screens “remember to take breaks and only play in moderation” while actively pushing players into OBLIGATORY playtime just so they don’t feel ripped off for wanting cosmetics and unlocks.

By law spending money on games should guarantee the user all the shiny toys being advertised to them, especially with how many of these games are advertised and marketed to children it’s bullshit and infuriating to anyone who understands what’s happening.

Loot boxes were only part of the problem, these are programs being used to seem affordable and fun but in reality is being used to have players logged on and gaming more than they might even want to, and if you are playing not because you are enjoying the game but because you are now obligated because of predatory tactics you are essentially being trained into a process addiction.

I want to hear people’s thoughts. This is the most profitable industry in the world right now yet somehow companies keep using worse and worse tactics the increase profits even further at the cost of damaging players mental health.

EDIT: For the love of god people READ MY POST. I’m NOT against BattlePasses I’m against the fact that they encourage 2-3 months of binge playing to unlock everything.

Process addiction is a real thing, FOMO is a REAL thing and time gated Battle Passes especially in games aimed at kids (FortNite) is a huge problem that most parents who aren’t gamers probably don’t even know about or understand.

They are trying to get people accustomed to sitting on their games for longer, if people go from playing their game 2 hours a day to 4 hours a day the time gated BattlePass worked.
