Anyone know which ivory handle Kramer by Zwilling series this is from? by MSined in chefknives

[–]MrSATism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be a knife from the Bob Kramer Zwilling Euroline/Carbon knife, which is made in Japan. IDK why it’s white, but it’s the only handle that I can think of with that little inward “hook” at the beginning.

I think that’s battery? Either way, I think you can report it because he’s in the wrong and very much intentionally hurting you?

That’s illegal, petty, and such a Karen move. Don’t do this.

What belt grinder do you have? I’ve been thinking about investing in a 2x42 / 2x48 / 2x72 to do bolster deletes and some thinning. I’ve done this by hand before and it is NOT fun.

The Naniwa Stone Holder should be able to fit your larger stone. Just make sure to double check with the stone you own before you buy, because the max that the container will fit is 30 mm/ 1.2 inches.

Oh I highly doubt that stone’s grit would get loose like that. I thought it would’ve been a diamond getting loose lol.

[–]MrSATism -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What are you using to thin the knife? I don’t know if this would be accurate but maybe one of the abrasives got loose and just drilled itself into the cladding? I don’t know if there’s a “fix” for this, but it shouldn’t mean your knife is destroyed.

Accurately snapping a ceramic rod by Mister_Brevity in sharpening

I’m very happy to hear that you managed to do it safely! And thank you for your detailed response! I have a couple of ceramic stones as well that I wouldn’t mind breaking into smaller sizes.

I’ve actually tried that before, it’s not the worst way to use a strop, but it certainly is a way. IDK what the ideal end goal is, but I just lay the knife at the sharpening angle, drop it a couple of degrees lower, and strop towards the edge. If don’t carefully, you won’t cut into the strop.

If anyone can clarify on the realistic or hypothetical benefits of this, it would be greatly appreciated!

TLDR: find a tile cutter, ask them to cut your rods for you.

I would not recommend snapping a ceramic rod. There’s a HIGH chance that it will not break the way you want it. Ceramic rods are hard by nature, so making a clean break seems unlikely to me.

There are round stones you can buy that are stones you can buy, including the lansky recurved stone set and the venev dog/curved Gemini stones. You can always buy shorter ceramic rods to fit in your KME as well.

IMO, the reasonable way to break apart ceramic rods would be to saw/cut the rod cleanly. Idk how to do it but it will take a long while doing it by hand. I’m sure you can go to a tile cutting place and ask them to cut the rods for you (it might cost some money though). If you want something done, might as well do it right.

However, if you do want to be live dangerously, you can always snap them by throwing them on the ground/ breaking them with a hammer. PLEASE wear protective equipment. Ceramic flying into your eye/mouth/nose/anywhere else is not a fun time. Sanding down the rods to the correct sizes will take a long while though, and there is no guarantee that your rods will break in a controlled way.

Floating abortion clinic proposed in Gulf to bypass bans by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]MrSATism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that a lot of people dropped a major conservative talking point. The belief that “life begins at conception” used to be a major talking point.

With this belief in mind, the desire to “defend” a baby goes to such great lengths that they believe that people would “abuse” this new term (dead baby removal) to get the “kill a baby” abortion.

I can go on about the flaws in their logic, but I won’t. I only want to present what they believe.

Or you had a miscarriage and have to go from the hospital in the middle of nowhere to the gulf to get an abortion.

Any reason to use a finer grit after thinning, other than aesthetics? 120grit Shapton pro by macgyverx86 in sharpening

[–]MrSATism 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think that the finer finishes on a knife should help with rust resistance? Or at least it did for when I worked on my VG1 knife. It didn’t make it rust proof, but I have to clean the rust off less often.

what is the highest grit possible on a whetstone. looking to have the sharpest blade ever. by -zhadow- in sharpening

[–]MrSATism 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m going to ideally assume that you’re able to get a blade sharp already using a whetstone. You REALLY don’t need to go to the highest grit, but you can always use a higher grit whetstone that isn’t going to break the bank.

Currently the “highest grit” whetstone would probably be the shapton pro/glass 30k. They currently start at $300… It will not make you the best sharpener. You can always invest in a higher grit whetstone (5k+ grit) or a strop with some compound. Both options will be INSANELY cheaper than the shaptons

I certainly think so! But the bigots think that because Agenda 2030 is represented by a circle of colors, they think it's the GAY AGENDA taking over.

Agenda 2030 is a UN plan launched in 2015 that is aimed at ending poverty in all its forms. The flag is a circle that is made up of multiple colors.
