I (25F) just got back from a 2 week trip to Bali with 7 other people, 2 of them being my childhood best friends (both 25F). I learned the hard way that I don’t ever want to travel to new places with them. They are the worst travel companions. They complain about anything and everything, from waking up early, the weather, walking/hiking, “sketchy” street food, they even accused locals of being creeps just because they were showing us kindness. Balinese people are incredibly kind and genuine. I kept insisting this to my friends but they’d go on and on about their “creepy” manners. One of the girls has been talking about going to Japan in 2024 since 2021. I don’t know how to tell them I don’t want to go with them. I don’t want to spend that much money just to be frustrated by their complaints the entire time. I realized that you can have different friends for different parts of your life. You can have friends you chill out with at home. You can have friends you party with. You can have friends you study with. You can have friends you travel with. It doesn’t have to be the same friends for everything. If they are all the same friends, great. If they’re not, no big deal. There should be an understanding there. My dilemma is getting my friends to understand this. They are the type to ice me out and make me feel bad about things like this. I went to Norway with my brother in 2017 and they have held a grudge against me for not inviting them since then. Send helpppp
