All-Seeing Upvote

I'm a visa holder, and I've only been in Australia for a month, so I'm not experienced with the hiring processes and such.

I've been job hunting while in Cairns, both on large websites but also on jobs in Cairns Facebook groups, where someone was looking for people to employ as farm assistants. First they asked me if I had linked my myGov account to ATO, of which I responded Yes, where they then sent a google application form to submit where I only filled in my address and phone number and such.

But after that they now request my email/ID and password to link the myGov account to their company database. I can quote the last few emails:

Them: I believe you have an idea what your online access is so it can be linked to the company database because this job has been secured for you and you will be receiving some work materials, sign-on bonus and employee profile which is all sponsored by the Government.

Me: Pardon me, I didn't understand your latest email.

Them: What is required is your myGov access(email address/userID and Password) to be linked to the company database. The Government is doing the whole process. We do not have any manual, your information is secured and will be given to you to change once your profile is submitted. It will be on the third day before you begin work.

Me: Just to clarify so that I understand fully, the government is currently linking my myGov access to your company database, and I will be notified once this has been done and I don't need to do anything myself at this stage?

Them: Yes, that is correct. You don't need to do anything. Provide the information required above so we can proceed further. You're required to begin work this coming week.

They haven't let me know any company details such as addresses or company name or any company ID, they've only told me they have offices in Adelaide and Trinity Park in Cairns and that they're in the process of opening a new office in Earlville in Cairns and need 30 farm assistants, hence the hiring process.

Is it normal from an employer to request this info? I still have 2-step verification but it feels dodgy that they request my password. I called ATO yesterday and while they thought it was an unconventional method they didn't think it was alarming, but that was before the latest email - I'd like to give ATO another call but the're closed for the weekend.
