Law Canada: A Place to Discuss the Professional Legal Experience in Canada

Hello to all,

I am a current law student who hesitated after high school and even after my undergrad to go into the Canadian army, but decided otherwise. The idea is never completely dispary, but I truly love the law and I see myself practicing a profession in the legal field. I was sincerely wondering about working as a legal officer for the CAF.

Is military law an interesting area of law? Is it similar to other areas of law?

What areas of law does a legal officer practice? What is the work of a legal officer in the CAF like?

What part of the army do they work for? Are there only JAG positions, or are there deployed positions, overseas, in other parts of the CFA, or at other military bases?

Another issue for me is that the experience gained in the Office of the JAG seems to have little (if any) transferability to private practice or any other public area. Are there private practices area where JAG experience is relevant?

I contacted a CAF recruiting office, they seemed to have very little information on the subject. It seems to be a very niche job, both in the legal and military fields. If anyone can enlighten me, I'd really appreciate it!
