I (26f) just need to vent. Last year I was diagnosed with my first episode of perioral dermatitis which went away eventually after trying several medications. My skin seemed normal for awhile, maybe some random flushing here and there, but not too bad. A couple months ago I noticed it started getting bad again especially with the redness and flushing. I had a feeling it was rosacea and I made an appointment with my doctor, which I finally had today. I waited months for this appointment and she probably spent no longer than 5 minutes with me. I was devastated by the diagnosis and I asked her where it came from. She told me, “it’s most often seen in alcoholics”. I was shocked because I’m not an alcoholic (and even if I were, what a insensitive response) and she asked me if someone in my family had rosacea. I said yes, my grandmother and she said, “and does she drink a lot?” I told her no, because she doesn’t, and she just walked out and had the nurse bring me in a packet of information. I got into the car and just cried. I already have bipolar for the rest of my life which is a battle every day mentally, I have ibs so I’ve cut out so many foods that I love, now I have to deal with rosacea for the rest of my life, too? I feel absolutely hopeless and restricted. I didn’t have much self esteem to begin with, now it’s really non existent. (Yes I’m in therapy and on medications). I just feel so frustrated, like no matter what I do to get my mind and body to a healthier place, something else drags me down again and it’s exhausting. I envy the people that can go out and live life normally. I feel like the human body shouldn’t be suddenly this bothered by just existing? How is there not a cure for these things? It doesn’t make sense to me. Sorry for the pity rant, I just feel like a big ball of sad negativity right now and I don’t have anyone to talk to about it.

Reminder

THE INTERNET IS BAD AT DIAGNOSING THINGS If you are concerned that you might have rosacea, please visit a dermatologist or your primary care physician for a diagnosis, rather than asking random strangers on the internet. There are many skin conditions and diseases with signs and symptoms similar to rosacea, some of which may be very serious.
