Declan Laverty, 20, was allegedly attacked with a knife just before 9pm at the BWS bottle shop in Jingili in Darwin's north.
It's believed the alleged attacker was refused service.
A 19-year-old man has been charged with one count of murder and one count of aggravated robbery.
He was remanded to face Darwin Local Court today.
Flowers have also been piling up outside the bottle shop as the community pays tribute to Laverty.
Laverty's father told Darwin radio station Mix FM last night his son messaged him, "love you, I've been stabbed," after the attack.
He described his son as "a wonderful, opinionated, strong lad."
"He loved his football, and he was really into music at the moment. He was trying to get some songs released and studying as well and working 30-odd hours a week at the BWS airport," he said.
The Endeavour Group, which owns BWS, has released a statement of support for the victim's family, friends and loved ones.
"We will offer counselling and support to all our team members in Darwin across BWS and AIH Hotels, and the team member's family," CEO Steve Donohue said.
