I am just really by the state of things right new.

Two years ago my parents went through something difficult and instead of going for professional psychiatric help and going for counselling, they decided to engage in yoga to help them relax.

During the yoga session, the would trauma dump to the instructor and slowly they have sort of a therapy session going on. And over the last two years they slowly been subscribing to the idea of manifestation, often sending me articles on "laws of attraction" and quoting the likes of sadhguru and jordan peterson. I don't know these people much but their theories sure sounds sketchy.

The breaking point for me was when a relative fell i'll with cancer and they'd visit him 3-4 days a week to "brainwash" him into thinking positive and how to manifest the cancer away. Their rationale was doctors always say cancers are probably caused by [insert factor] but never sure, so in their view, they believe law of attraction more than science. I took biology in high school and I understand cancer is an illness that's probabilistic in nature and there are factors that increase and decrease the chances of getting one. But i will never go to the extent of saying my oncologist is taking out of his ass.

I was educated in a very science-specialised school all my life and literally going into an engineering school next year, thanks to my parents focus in evidence based education early in life.... but now they themselves have became science-doubters over some spirituality bullshit..?

I am so mad because i feel like my parents are no longer who they are, and at the same time, that yoga instructor giving bogus therapy is getting rich. On top of that, I pity my relative that had to battle the pain of chemo and watch my parents become the family preachers.

I wrote 'internet based religion' in the title because I've notice a lot of tiktok videos is also preaching that kind of spirituality crap while ignoring mental health condition and denying the validity of seeking professional help.
