Hello all, I have a chronic condition that is making it increasingly harder to commute to the office. I have tried approaching my boss about more WFH days but they are vehemently against one a week and it's not longer feasible for me to work there on these conditions because of how my condition is deteriorating.

I currently manage a website (and social media for that website) but god I have had THE WORST time finding a remote job. I have been targeting social media management and content creation but also writing, customer service, pretty much everything. I am young but for my age I feel I have a pretty sizable amount of experience, with 3+ years in social media management.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? Can people suggest me places where I can apply for WFH jobs? Thanks

Hi guys, just a quick background about myself. Graduated in 2019 with Financial Economics degree. BBC (Maths, Chem & Biology) for my A-Levels. A in GCSE Maths and C in GCSE English.

Due to some personal reasons, I did not apply for jobs until start of this year. Worked some retail jobs here and there. So I’ve started working as an Accounts Assistant(25k south east), been there for a week. On the job description for the role, it stated that I would be carrying out roles mainly of purchase ledger with some payrolls here and there. However, couple of days before I was meant to start the CFO asked me if I wanted to do some cost accounting stuff as soon as I heard accounting I said yes why not. He said it would be much more exciting than purchase ledger. Before, I was volunteering at the company my dad works in, doing some basic office works like sending PO/Invoices/Payroll etc…

I don’t have any knowledge about accounting. The company I work for is a manufacturing company(basically a factory that produces XXX) with a turnover of £18m. So currently I haven’t even touched purchase ledger stuff, there’s probably around 10 people in the office.

The CFO is showing me how to produce weekly PnL, well the cost & management accountant is but the thing is that she doesn’t have any accounting qualifications ACCA/CIMA guessing cause it didn’t show on her profile, I looked at her on LinkedIn and prior to this role she was working as an C&M Accountant for 25 years in another manufacturing company and the CFO brought her over, well she was unemployed for like 7/8 months. Also, for the same company she was Finance manager for 5 years (LinkedIn profile).

With me I have a lot of wasted time I need to recover from, so I’m extremely motivated to get where I want to, which is quite vague, working in Finance doing something I enjoy, hoping to earn more than £70/80k. I am honestly willing to spend more than 70+ hours a week to get to where I want to.

I feel like cost accounting is quite a niche area and feel like I’m going to get pigeonholed into the role, and it doesn’t seem like there is a lot of jobs going on for cost accountants, since only manufactures need cost accountants. I’m just worried the things im doing/will be doing is not going to be useful when I apply for another role Management/Financial Accountant.

What do you guys think I should do, start looking for another jobs ASAP, if so what kind of or ask the CFO to do some Purchase ledger stuff. Would studying CIMA/ACCA and getting part qualified put me in better position or just apply for graduate roles. I just feel so stuck I don’t know what to do.

This is UK Accounting, I know the rules are quite different to US, where they seem to be so strongly focused on CPA, in the UK anyone with any degree can get into accounting grads scheme/job etc...

Thanks guys hope every on has an amazing day!
