Hi all, my (f28) partner (m29) has for a long time been stuck in a rut regarding work and life. We have two young children and he works in the construction industry. He talks about how he could be a fighter, admittedly he is good at mma. However, he easily drinks a 6 pack a day, socially smokes and says I don’t give him enough time to train as I am in a well established career and it requires us to share the parenting load equally. Mind you, he always finds time to go to the pub…. Me on the other hand, i work fulltime and I train 6 x a week (mostly at 5am) for a sport that doesn’t pay me any money and I just do it for the love and I don’t make excuses. I also don’t drink, smoke and I eat a diet tailored to enhance my performance. He keeps telling me he has to give up work to train however I seriously question his discipline and I think he will just spend the time off drinking. He has hardly trained in the last year. He previously had a fight a few years ago where he didn’t train enough, I drove him to training every time he needed to go (no licence due to dui offence)cooked and cleaned and looked after the baby solely to support him. However every weekend was a piss up, he didn’t focus and made excuses to skip training (and went to the pub instead) struggled to make weight in the last few days and subsequently lost the fight on points. Just wondering, if you are starting out as a fighter, is it possible to train and work fulltime? Is he making excuses? Does he need to be as serious about diet/abstaining from drinking as I think?

TLDR; My partner wants to be a fighter, what level of commitment will that require? Can he still work fulltime?
