I have downloaded MusicBrainz Picard, and added in Artist and Genre, which is helpful. It also seems to have automatically added the order of the tracks. Each indivual track would have the number in front of the title. The result of this however is that each track title now has a period "." in front of it.

Firstly, is it possible to do a batch command to remove this Period? If not, no huge deal.

My second and biggest issue is this:

No album name, so if I import them to musicbee (my current music library - open to other suggestions) - since there is no album name, its a giant mess.

The name of each album is the name of the folder they are contained in, so for example the folder stucture is this:

Name of Artist>Live in NYC 07/07/2021>.Track title.

Is it possible to do a batch command to use the name of the folder and apply that as the name of the album, and do this at scale. So If I import 100 diferent folders (albums) - each one gets the album changed to the name of said folder.

Sorry if I didn't do a good job explaining this and I can expand if needed.

Need advice about adopting beets with my existing collection and workflow

Right now I use a few directories:

~/new_music

~/Music/0_Downloaded

~/Music

I use the new_music directory to download files. At the moment, I get the tags in reasonable shape and the have a listen to see if I want to keep it or compare against previous versions if it is a remaster.

Once I have decided I want to keep it then I add it to ~/Music/0_Downloaded. This is the messy part and probably the part which is causing a problem in conceptualising a workflow with beets. These files are in my library (seen my mpd), tagged and have replaygain, but I like to keep them separate so I can still keep them under review and have easy access to new stuff before they disappear into my library and forgotten about until I come across them again.

Once I'm happy that I really do want to keep it, and that I have listened to it enough to not forget about it, I move it into the ~/Music/albumartist/year - album/ directory.

So I'm not sure how to set things up. I have set up beets so far to preserve mtime so I potentially don't need to use the 0-Downloaded folder, Cantata can sort my last modified and I think beets can list albums by that too (or created at least) so I guess it's unlikely that I would lose track of new files, but I'm not sure what to do.

Should I move all the 0-Downloaded files into the main library and just import new files from my temp folder into the library?

I can't see any way for beets to import to a place that isn't the main library so it seems to be problematic to have this 0-Downloaded folder at all.

Has anyone else ever gone back to correct older rips using offset?

I noticed that some albums I had ripped years ago had annoying bits of prior tracks in the opening milliseconds of songs or the openings of some songs being cropped.

Examples include: October Rust by Type O Negative (it was bad enough I thought it might be a prank, but later editions are fixed) Superunknown by Soundgarden ("Head Down" in particular was affected)

I opened the files in Audacity to see how many samples the table of contents was off, put the value into the offset field in Exact Audio Copy and fixed the problem.

need help organizing library by genre, very verbose explanation

So first of all this post exhaustively lists my needs, I don't need everything to be exactly met; just need to be pointed in correct direction. Main focuses were written in bold.

I've a collection of 15k~ songs and most of them are flac, lately it become overwhelmingly hard to keep track of downloads and organizing them so I just dumped them all in one folder. In following weeks I will organize them all but need suggestions on following;

1.Folder structure, my idea is as below for full albums;

\Quality or Format\Genre\Sub-genre\Artist\%year% - %albumtitle%\%track%. %title%.flac

or

\Genre\Sub-genre\Artist (not FLAC)\%year% - %albumtitle%\%track%. %title%.flac

and for singles etc

..\Artist\%artist% - %title%.flac

for compilations of VA and Splits

..\MainArtist\%artist% - %title%.flac
