So I need some honest opinions. I'm 28 and come from a relatively small town (about 25,000 people) and have lived here my whole life. I'm looking to move somewhere bigger and with more opportunities, and into a more progressive minded city. Somewhere sunnier, and where I can start over socially and find a community of like minded friends. I was originally drawn to Santa Fe, but its housing cost kind of turned me away. Albuquerque's relatively low cost of housing is very appealing, I work for a national telecommunications company, so I can be transferred from my job to a job in Albuquerque, so finding work shouldn't be too difficult and from an outsiders view, it seems like a very artsy city full of character. But there are a couple things that give me some pause; for one, the city is bigger than any city in my home state. I want a bigger city to live in, but Albuquerque looks little intimidating and a little overwhelming. I'm especially worried about driving in the city on a daily basis. I spent a few weeks in Portland and I could barely handle that haha. Again I'm a midwestern kid where three laned traffic and roundabouts are a bit of a novelty so go easy on me for that haha. I also hear Albuquerque has a bit of a reputation for bad drivers, so is getting around you city pretty difficult or are those reports just overblown? And my biggest question would be is Albuquerque the right first big city for a small town, liberal millennial to move into? I know I just threw a ton of questions out, so sorry about that, but the city seems very appealing to me. I want to make sure I won't be too overwhelmed before I commit to moving and would like to know the negatives along with the positives. And those real estate sites with their endless positivity was getting nauseating haha.
