What do you think is, in the grand scheme of things, is the purpose of life? Is there an ultimate real meaning to life and existence in general, or is it just that life is ultimately meaningless, and one ought to decide by himself what life means to himself?

Peace in religious rituals and prayer, but no religion?

I find enormous peace in listening to gregorian chants and old hymns, as well as visiting cathedrals. I'm currently reading about orthodoxy, whilst also enjoying tibetan singing bowls and learning about Buddhism. I meditate and last night prayed for the first time, feeling an enormous sense of peace and "oneness".

However, when I get down to the nitty gritty of religions, if all gets so pedantic and ridiculous I get put off. My last conversation resulted in a guy telling me aboriginals were Jews. People just believe things that are demonstrably wrong. However, I'm finding great peace in the pursuit of spirituality in general. Does this just make a "spiritual" person? I'm willing to accept the fact that its psychological, not that there's anything wrong with that and its the most likely cause. However, I'd like to actually follow something rather than just "feeling" stuff.

NEWS: For the first time ever, a majority of people in Britain have no religion

The figures are being driven by two major factors. First, the decline of the Church of England:

Just 15% of Britons consider themselves Anglican, down from 30% in 2000
10% consider themselves Catholic, a figure relatively stable over the last few decades
Those practicing a non-Christian religion are up to 6% of the population

Second, the figures are being driven by a complete collapse in religion amongst young people:

More than 7 in 10 (71%!) of 18-24 year old Britons say they have no religion
Just 3% of young people are Anglican, compared to 40% of those 75+
60% of those 65-74 are practicing a religion, and that number rises to 73% amongst those 75+, so you can see how wide the gap is between the older generations and the new
