In need of help learning about Filipino culture

Hi! I am in need of help. I should state first I am a while male from the US. I have been dating my girlfriend (who is Filipino) for about a year now and as things become more serious I'm starting to learn I'm in a different environment than previous relationships and need help learning how to be a better boyfriend. As we both graduate from college soon and things are beginning to become more serious she has started to explain how courting plays a role into Filipino culture and how important it is for me to meet her parents. I should state both of her parents moved from the Philippines to the US years ago before she was even born. While I have met her father briefly i haven't had a chance to meet her whole family. They live a far distance from me but I intend on traveling to meet them.

What I really need help with is how do I respect her family's culture and start to move forward in this relationship? What can I start to do and educate myself about Filipino culture that will help me as I begin this process? Is there anything else you can suggest?

Filipinos in canada was it hard to go and live there?

Me and my fam might move to Canada next year but they didn't tell me anything but us moving to Canada so i don't know was it hard to go there? Was it expensive? Where is the best place to live? Was it cheap?

PLEASE HELP i don't wanna ask them because they're too busy

Talk to me like you would to a young child, or, a golden retriever.

I’m invited for a Filipino lunch at the residence.

Any tips, do’s and don’ts? I’m not completely uncivilized but can’t imagine myself not breaking any unwritten rules, or set in stone ones, for that matter.

Anything I could bring to be courteous without overdoing it?

Haven’t met anybody of the family yet, and the host is like, somewhere between a business/collegial relation and a friend.

help me learn ab the culture :3

i'm half filipino and i live in the US. unfortunately my dad (who's filipino) passed when i was young so i have very little connection to my filipino roots. i'm planning on staying in the philippines for a few months to explore the islands and get connected to family, but i don't want to go down there with 0 knowledge of the language/culture. i'm not going until jan 2024 so i have lots of time to learn. any advice or suggestions on how to connect with my culture will help tremendously🙏🏽 i do have a few specific questions as well

what kind of music do filipinos really listen to? what are the songs that i must know?

what kind of clothing should i bring with me? i'm a 20yo f that lives in atl and a lot of my clothes are a little more revealing 🥲 so i have a feeling my wardrobe won't exactly align with what most people would consider acceptable (just from the little knowledge i have ab SE asian culture). i'll be meeting some of my family for the first time, but most of my trip i'll be doing volunteering while i island hop. i definitely wanna slay but i don't wanna offend any older people 🤣

any phrases that i should know? i'm learning from a variety of different resources but everything feels very formal 😅 i know i won't sound like a native speaker but i don't want to sound like a tourist who just learned enough to get around lol

any cultural norms that are different from in the US?

also, as i learn more tagalog, i'd love to be able to practice speaking it with real people 😁 if you're in the same boat or if youd like to connect w me so that i can have more filipino friends add me on ig! @xaaliyahp
