Dealing with muscle atrophy grief

Hi! About two weeks ago was my ACL-R (patellar tendon graft, lateral and medial meniscus repair) I’ve been on crutches for two weeks, will be on them two more. Before surgery, the bad leg could push and pull ~20lbs less than the good one, so I knew and was prepared to start to see muscle atrophy a lot more, especially post-op. Just today I was doing my exercises (all the good stuff, and I’m at 90*!) and I caught a glimpse of the side of my calf, and wow! I’ve always been an athlete, so I’ve always had a good amount of muscle, my legs are my pride and joy! Bust seeing the muscle approaching as thick as my ankle, phew, that got me. I broke down a bit and felt like I needed to reach out to the community. Idk how this post sounds, because I have those moments of breakdown when I just want to cry, and I do. But I’d love to see people’s’ journeys on getting their muscles back. Trust once I get cleared for weight bearing, I will be working to get the muscle back, but for now— all I can do is watch. Lmk and share your stories!!

Post op wins. Hi all. I am 4 days post op from acl hamstring reconstruction and meniscus repair. Doing my small daily exercises and today I got this far and I am so proud of myself. Everyday is up and down. I would love to hear other peoples small post op wins.

i am 16 weeks post op. my knee is still on fire. every time i walk, there is a crunchy noice. can anyone else relate? how do i look?

I am 4 weeks post op and stiffness in the morning is extremely painful and strong. I feel I can barely move my knee after waking up. Typically as day go my knee will feel much better with no stiffness in the evening. Anyone can share when such strong morning stiffness goes away ?

Sports to test knee in rapid motion and landing

I tore my left ACL in late 2018 and had reconstructive surgery in 2019. Everything went well, it's been years and I don't really think about my left knee for the most part but last year I had a whole slew of health problems which turned out to be related to the lost muscle in my left leg that I never quite trained up to what it was before (after my surgery I kinda stoped sports for the most part).

To combat the chronic back pain, fatigue and headaches, my physio told me that I need to do sports, ideally something that would train my knee without endangering it.

I have chosen ballet, which I did for a few years when I was a kid, and it turns out to be a great rehabilitation tool and I have already noticed an improvement in my wellbeing and everyday mundane activity, such as walking stairs.

However, ballet does have quite a few jumpy and twisty-turny moves and I am not 100% sure I know my new knee well enough to securely land on my feet. I thought about trampolining, which is supposed to teach you how to properly land in a relatively safe environment - but people here seem to highly discourage this after an ACL reconstruction.

Does anyone know a way for me to very slowly and very safely test the waters in terms of training my knee while landing and in rapid motion?
