I seriously don’t know how someone can watch the show and come to the conclusion that Cassian is a bad guy and that when he kills it’s unjustifiable

I’ve seen this take here on Reddit and also on other social media that Cassian is a bad guy or isn’t a good person mostly because he “murders people unjustified” and it just annoys me how bad of that take that is

Two security cops (who also harassed Cassian earlier) try to rob Cassian at gunpoint, when they get closer to Cassian he fights back and accidentally kills one of them, the last one begs for his life and says they can go to the station together and he’ll turn himself in and tell them the truth, Cassian knows he’s probably lying and won’t take the risk so he shoots him.

If they hadn’t try to rob a man minding his own business they wouldn’t be dead, worst part is their job is to keep other people safe yet they do the opposite.

Then there’s Skeen. After the heist is done and they’re safe Skeen reveals to Cassian that he lied about his dead brother and some other stuff, which is obviously a bit worrying, and then he begins to talk to Cassian about splitting the heist money and leaving the others behind, Cassian is smart enough to know that someone who’s willing to betray the people he’s been living and working with for months is just as likely to betray him. That situation was either Cassian saying yes splitting the money and leaving the others behind, or saying no and then Skeen likely tries to kill him and take the money for himself. Cassian was backed into a corner by him and he chose the option that helped other people than just himself, he was starting to become less selfish at that point especially because of Nemik’s influence.

And with that being said Cassian also shows compassion for other people multiple times and saves people. I’m not saying he’s an angel or anything, he’s a flawed and realistic person who grows and changes throughout the show, which is what makes him a great character, but he’s not a bad person at all and the people he killed in the show kinda had it coming.
