I started growing Dioscorea elephantipes from seed a little over a month ago. All 5 of the seeds I sowed germinated within 2-3 weeks and I was so happy! But then last week one of the pots accidentally got knocked over and damaged two of my seedlings. I was thankfully able to save the one plant that got bent but not damaged too much by propping it up with supports. The other seedling’s stalk was mangled. I literally almost cried over it. I attempted to prop it back up but the stalk from where it was damaged to the leaf just shriveled up and died😢.
When I finally cut off the shriveled up section, I realized the half going into the dirt was actually still pretty sturdy and standing up tall. So I left the tiny green stalk without a leaf. Then before I knew it (about 8 days later) I noticed a tiny new stalk with a tiny immature leaf growing out of the same base!
Don’t give up if you make a mistake! They definitely have a strong will to survive!
