Aggressive toward the oldest

I have a medium-sized dog, Abby, in a large (6) mixed pack.

Abby became increasingly aggressive and attacked our oldest dog, a Shetland sheepdog much smaller than herself. This behavior only came out as the Shetland became older. We dealt with the issue by rehoming the older dog to the in-laws. and peace returned to the house.

Now, after much time our next oldest is receiving the same treatment. In both cases, these are smaller-than-Abby dogs, but that is likely just a coincidence as all the dogs her size or larger are actually younger. And all of these instances only seem to occur while both dogs are at my wife's feet.

Abby is normally calm and docile, She alerts at the door, but only when she knows it's me or it's a stranger. Not the kids, usually nor my wife. She's loving and gentle. I know my dogs are not the best trained, nor the most well-exercised, but they a generally decent behaving well socialized dogs.

We are looking again at rehoming. But whom to rehome? Is it the aging dog, for her protection? Or Abby for being the issue? We really don't need to continue this legacy, but we don't know what to do.

Maybe it's something else altogether? Anyone?

Rescue Chihuahua and Barking

Hello! I have 4 dogs, all quite different from each other and all rescues. Our most recent rescue was by chance/accident. I literally found her near my work very sickly and took her in.

She is what we think is a chiweenie. She has some fear of strangers, but has gotten significantly better over time with slow introductions. She loves other dogs.

The point of this post is that her bark is high-pitched, piercing to the core, and I border on “misophonia” (for those who don’t know, it is an extreme issue with certain sounds. When people eat around me, I have to either leave the room or turn a loud sound on so that they don’t bother me… or suffer through it so that I don’t seem crazy). My other dogs I can handle because they are lower pitched, and don’t bark often, but her barking like… physically hurts me.

She barks when the other dogs run or play (I think out of excitement), she barks when she wakes up to wake us up, when she hears certain noises, sees new people, it’s just how she interacts with the world so I don’t really want to punish her for that, just maybe find her a good replacement strategy?

We just got strapped with a 3k bill from my other dog’s day train program, and I’d love to pay for training for her too, but I’m going to need to save up for a few months.

I’m the meantime, what can I start to do about the barking?

My dog has been jealous I think?

My husband and I have a setter spaniel, in tact male, 5 years old. We had a baby 6 months ago. Before our child, he was great. Never having accidents in the house, he wasn’t crated but we had gated him in the one room of the house. Only on occasion would he get into the trash (due to our negligence). Ever since having our baby he has been pretty bad. Marking different areas in the house, and lately he has been pooping. We let them out regularly (even at night due to having the infant wake up therefore handling the dogs as well as the child) and my girl (3) boxer hasn’t had a single issue. Not only that he has been extremely clingy. We try to dedicate as much time to them as possible (throwing toys around, snuggles, outside play time, treats, etc) and he still has been having trouble adjusting. We’re not sure how to fix this issue. We want him to feel comfortable and happy. I have been losing patience as the marking has been going on for the duration of the 6 months and the pooping pretty recently. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bark collar for a crate yapper?

My 8 month old pup has always had an issue with barking in the crate. For a long time we thought it was anxiety related but after installing a camera and watching her, we have determined that she is just doing it because she is bored or protesting being crated. She is able to settle in the crate, but after she naps or has been up for a little while or has otherwise determined her sentence should be up she will start yipping either randomly or consistently. The ONLY thing that curbed the behavior was e collar corrections, but when we aren't home to correct her obviously she gets away with barking as she pleases, which makes it hard to train out. Looking for bark collar recommendations or experiences that worked to help us out!

Me and my fiancé got a 4 month old lab puppy a few days ago and now it’s time for us to go back to work. Is it safe to use a playpen instead of a crate?

Best way to deal with irresponsible dog owners?

Context: I have two dachshunds, one of which is a puppy. The pup is very nervous and reactive towards other dogs, she barks and lunges a lot. We are trying to train/desensitise her from a distance. (Any tips welcome with this!)

We were walking our dogs today on lead, and 3 dogs off lead were coming in our direction. We moved away from the path to stay out of their way. One of their dogs runs up to us and scares our puppy, so she starts barking. We pick our puppy up and the dog keeps jumping up on my partner to get to her. This triggers our older dog too.

The owner make no effort to recall their dog, and she proceeds to blame us for trying to push their dog away. She claimed we shouldn’t be out with our dog if she’s that scared, and the situation resulted in us shouting at each other because she couldn’t see any fault in her dogs behaviour.

Dog in question was still not on a lead at that point and still jumping up at us as we try to walk away. I’m so angry as we always have our dogs on lead and try to do the right thing.

What can you do in a situation where a dog won’t leave you alone and an owner that frankly doesn’t think it’s an issue?

My poor pup is now even more timid and reactive and it feels like months of working on her has gone out the window.
