I’ve skiied my whole life in the US and never seen it either. Maybe curated videos from a country of 300 million people is not a good source of figuring out what behavior is common!
About 15 years ago when I was a teenager, I had my pass taken away for a skiing unmarked glades at a small resort.
A couple years later the mountain ended up marked those glades as green runs.
The closest was asoiaf, but GRRM missed the timing on that one. I still say that if GRRM released Winds of winter during Covid lockdown, it would have taken over the cultural conversation.
I often wonder if/when I’ll ever need to buy a book at midnight. Maybe stormlight, but that will never be as big as Harry Potter.
Totally agree, that was a HUGE missed opportunity for him to sell a bazillion books. And now that the HBO series has ended so poorly most casual readers aren’t going to rush to pick up a 1,000 page novel when if he ever releases it. Plus you would have to go back and reread the last two books to remember anything that’s happening in the sort. This is why I don’t think he’ll ever actually finish writing the series.
I think we get at least Winds of Winter.
