Just wondering how common, or how varied cross-border family histories are.

I’ll go first, why am I even asking. When I was on holiday in Croatia, I met this amazing grandmother of Serbian origin, who had lived in Germany for much of here recent life (decades), and has/had direct family in almost all the Yugoslav follower states, with the breakup overcomplicating i.e. family visits from the Yugoslav wars onwards. She is a very knowledgable person and lived through many changes, enough for many a lifetime. My initial thought was, this is both so complex, fascinating and beyond what I had imagined could have been happening.
