In the past decade or so, the National Football League has changed so many rules to give advantages to receivers and QBs. First they made it so that you can't play defense on receivers and then a few years later they started hellishly protecting QBs. You either play weaker defense against passing offenses or you get murdered with defensive pass interference, holding, unnecessary roughness, and roughing the passer calls. Thus, players are throwing for more passing yards than ever. People revere quarterbacks for being in the top in total passing yards, but if you look at the players/teams closely, it does not lead to success as much as one would think. The league is built for quarterbacks to air the ball out.

It's as bad now as it's ever been but the league is supporting it because they suffer the most if games are low scoring(decreased viewership) and if star QBs get hurt. The league is promoting the West Coast offense as much as possible. It creates higher scoring games and attracts the casual viewer to tune in on Sundays.
