I think so. Something of her cheeky character came through which we were both happy about

Thank you, perhaps the very muted colour harmony is giving it the calming quality

Beautifully drawn. A great sensitivity for rhythm and line.

Wow I really like this. I can feel the gentle warmth of sunlight in the lights and the relatively cooler areas of shadow. The sense of space is very convincing too; you did a good job of the linear perspective and we also really feel the atmosphere and the distance beyond the hill.

Perhaps most interesting in terms of the psychology of the piece is the clever use of suggestion with the rag draped over the wall and the open door. It’s a scene that at a first glance looks abandoned but there’s just enough information there to let us know that there are inhabitants just around the corner, beyond view. I think that’s what gives the foreboding feeling some have noticed.

Digital art isn’t my thing at all but this really did grab my attention. Great work.

Happy painting! If you’re on the west coast, Artist’s and Craftsman supply is a good store to buy from too.

I’m a professional oil painter and I haven’t used solvents for around 4 years. It’s a complete misconception that they’re necessary and I find it a shame to see people avoid oil painting because of this.

All cleanup of brushes and palette can be done with just linseed oil and rags/ paper towels.

In terms of the painting itself, you can use unthinned paint straight out the tube at the start of the process. If you want to work in multiple layers then really you should slightly increase the ratio of oil to pigment for subsequent layers. I personally add incrementally increasing amounts of stand oil to my paint after layer 3 but there are lots of different ways to respect ‘fat over lean’ without solvents in the initial layers.

The main point is, solvents like turpentine or odourless mineral spirits are not necessary for oil painting. Not for cleanup either. They are purely optional and should be avoided if possible as they’re not good for you.

I’m not sure how to make it not NSFW. I think it might be because I have NSFW images in my profile.

Not completely. Aircraft fuel is still leaded

Paint mixing as a professional artist is difficult too, especially like this. I definitely don’t get it this clean on the first try.

Professional oil painter here: I’m classically trained and not sure I can do that.
