Russia economy is vulnerable. In January, Russia's has reached the biggest budget deficit ($25 billion) since at least 1998. Tax revenue from oil and gas plunged 46% due to sanctions, while the cost of war in Ukraine has increased the spending by 59%.

"A US ban on TikTok could inadvertently encourage other governments to tighten their grip, shrinking the digital civic space." FH's argues that the US should strengthen privacy and transparency regulations rather than embrace censorship online.

Before Gorbachev was dead, he was alive, David. While alive, he said that promise was never made. Would have been a bit weird if they were discussing NATO expansion into the former Soviet Union before it became the former Soviet Union.

We fought Hitler and Imperial Japan to stop annexation. We created the UN to prevent annexation. After decades of little annexation in the world, Putin is now trying to bring back the practice. We cannot allow it to become legitimized again.

Gorbachev? Yeltsin? Nemtsov? No. That was Medvedev in 2010 at the Lisbon NATO summit, 2 years AFTER the "dreaded" 2008 Bucharest NATO summit! I know, inconvenient facts. But these are direct quotes from Putin & Medvedev. But carry on with your mythmaking. 9/

At a NATO summit -- yes a NATO summit!!! -- a Russian said this: "The period of distance in our relations and claims against each other is over now. We view the future with optimism and will work on developing relations between Russia and NATO in all areas . . ." 8/

"At the end of the day, the decision is to be taken by NATO and Ukraine. It is a matter for those two partners." Author? Yep, you guessed it. That's Putin again. 7/

On Ukraine-NATO, a Russian policymaker said this: "I am absolutely convinced that Ukraine will not shy away from the processes of expanding interaction with NATO and the Western allies as a whole. Ukraine has its own relations with NATO; there is the Ukraine-NATO Council." 6/

After the second wave of NATO expansion was announced, a Russian strategist said this: "We of course are not in a position to tell people what to do. We cannot forbid people to make certain choices if they want to increase the security of their nations in a particular way.” 4/

When asked if Russia should join NATO, here's what one Russian leader said about the scary, horrible NATO: "Why not? Why not . . . I do not rule out such a possibility . . . it is with difficulty that I imagine NATO as an enemy." 2/

Because the USSR/Russia continues to invade & annex your neighbors -- Poland 1939, Baltics states 1940, Finland 1940, Hungary 1956, Czechoslovakia 1968, Georgia 2008, Ukraine 2014 & 2022. Stop invading your neighbors & maybe they wouldn't feel so compelled to get security help.

Зачем тогда США и странам НАТО расширение на Восток нужно? Зачем вы вокруг России построили пояс из биолабораторий?

Those shouting at the President of the United States of America not only disrespected our Commander in Chief but also our Speaker.

When people can't think of an actual argument or have no data, they call you a liar. Maybe the most juvenile form of discourse. Shouting it is even more pathetic.

Noted. For all your claims about "futile exchanges," you and your MFA colleagues sure spend a lot of time reading & reacting to a professor "in the regions" (as Moscovites would say)! Not much happening at the United Nations these days?

I don’t see any contradiction in having one policy and expressing my own views. I am also guided by common sense. For example no one authorized me to engage in this futile exchange and to comment your Russophobic remarks and delusions on “Kiev’s victory”. It’s my own decision.
