hi solo travelers,

so basically i (23f) am planning to travel solo in a few months to southeast asia (trip is already booked). my boyfriend (21m) isn’t very happy about it. we’ve been together for over a year and i made sure that he knew of my plans to solo travel before we even started dating. i have always had the idea of traveling for a few months after i graduate college on a one way ticket and living the nomad life for a while (bf still has 2 years left of college). he seemed okay with doing long distance for the time im away, but ever since i booked the flight he started having reservations. he started telling me that he can’t “just wait around for me” and that i can “just wait a few more years until he can come.” he wants me to shorten my trip to a month as a compromise.

the problem is, i don’t want to shorten my trip. it was never my dream to go for a month, and i want to be free to experience travel without having to get approval from him on everything. today, i told him we had to say goodbye and this just isn’t working for me because this whole ordeal is taking the excitement out of my trip, but he talked me into trying to work it out. i do love him a lot and he treats me perfectly, but i just don’t know what to do. i feel like our paths just aren’t aligned right now, but at the same time i don’t want to let him go. should i keep trying to make it work or are we just doomed to fail?
