Had a patient come in a couple days ago requesting for some medication to be refilled. They said they had 5 to refill and I asked them if they remember what they were.

“No, but they should all be in my profile. They’re all used for my blood pressure.”

Okay, mentally sighing. But it’s fine. I refill the ones that are for blood pressure but I’m missing one more.

I go through the list of the ones I submitted refills for and they’re fine with all of them but obviously I’m missing one. I ask them again and they were able to tell me. Perfect. Only thing is that we don’t have one of the medications in stock and I tell them the order for it will be in within 24 to 72 business hours. They’re fine with it and they’ll come back when all of them are ready because they want to pick them up at the same time.

No problem.

Maybe like 2 days later, we’re swamped with patients. 2 people called out so it’s just me, another tech, and the pharmacist. Can’t call IC3 because there’s only 2 people in the front as well so everyone’s pretty much suffering.

The patient comes in and I ring up all of his prescriptions. He’s finally relieved because apparently he came in yesterday and it didn’t come in our order so he had to make another trip back today. I apologize for the inconvenience (not really) and moved on.

Same patient comes back and shows me that one of the medications I refilled for is not the one he’s taking anymore. He mumbles under his breath that he wasted his money on medication he doesn’t even take anymore. At this point I’m pretty much fed up with everything because I had both the front line and drive thru yell at me for taking so long, despite them CLEARLY seeing that I am the only one running the front, tackling insurance issues on the spot while the other tech and pharmacist are filling and both on the phones. I think to myself, “on that day when you came in to refill, I clearly remember going all of the medications and you were fine with all of them and they all totaled up to 5 medications.” He wanted to to talk to the pharmacist so it was off my hands at that point but I just can’t believe the audacity of people. Like at least make our lives easier by keeping track of what you take and at least have a list of what medications you take (WITH THE STRENGTH) on hand. Don’t blame us when you had multiple opportunities to do so. 🫤
