Hi Folks, would like to benefit from your collective intelligence on how to best proceed with next Covid vaccine shot.

I am a male in my mid-50s in decent health. Vaccination profile is 3X mRNA in 2021 and 1 NVX in early Nov 2022. Not previously infected. LabCorp titer to original strain was 2400 at 2 months after NVX.

After yesterday’s VRBPAC meetings 2 things seem clear: Novavax needs 6 months to roll out new vaccine and its current product is not effective against XBB.

I’d like to have 2 things: 1) some protection in the current XBB wave and 2) boost for a big international trip mid-year.

I see 3 options:

1. To stay on “pure Novavax” train, I will need to get original NVX shot #2 now (because of primary series timing rules), and wait for the booster in Q3/4 (since NVX needs 6 months). Thus, no protection for my big trip, and likely minimal protection against XBB now.

2. Do nothing now, and get the most current mRNA in time for my trip. (8 month interval between boosters).

3. Or, as a 3rd option, boost with current mRNA now and with whatever is most current and available mid-year. (5 month interval).

Would like to hear what you fine folks would choose if you were in my position.

Physicians are advising bivalent mRNA, but it feels like we’re all in a DIY healthcare these days.
