My husband is Indian and won’t let me wear shorts. I know that sounds bad, but he’s not that bad. In India, no one wears them and I’ve heard of girls being slapped or even beaten for wearing them . It’s sad. I try to be sympathetic bc I know for him it’s like me leaving the house in a thong.

But I’m American and grew up in a preppy beach town where shorts are de rigeur. I get heat migraines in the summer and it would help me alot to be able to wear shorts once in a while.

Here’s my plea: my husband is fairly reasonable and idolizes high class American and European style, as well as old school prep. My mother was a true prep and wore shorts. Not constantly but on appropriate occasions. To me, shorts are not inherently trashy- while they are not super traditional , at this point they’ve been around for long enough. My husband says I can wear shorts down to the knee but I have slim legs and the style is not always flattering. I’d like to wear 5” shorts at least. We don’t live in New York City, or anything- we live in a suburb where it’s super duper casual, and plenty of women wear shorts albeit usually young ones. I’m 40 but my lean legs are my best feature and it also boosts my ego to wear shorts bc they flatter me. If I can convince my husband that shorts can be classic and not trashy, I think he’s be more amenable to it. I’m compiling a Pinterest board of royal family members, First Ladies, wealthy socialites, elegant celebrities- wearing shorts. Or short dresses. Of course usually this is at a sporting event, on vacation, by the pool, but nevertheless full outfits that they wear in public or in the backyard.

So far I have princess Diana (he doesn’t believe me that she wore shorts), Kate Middleton and Meghan markle, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, CZ Guest, Jackie O (shorts and also wore short dresses - mid thigh) maybe Lauren Bacall and Ingrid bergman… ? I think he will be less swayed by Celebs in general but Grace Kelly was quite elegant.

Does anyone have any suggestions of ladies to add, or argument points that might help me win him over?? I’m not looking to wear booty short cut offs day in and day out. I can try some classic white chinos, which is what I had in mind to begin with. Thank you so much 🙏💕
