The NFL has benefitted the most from the high quality evolution than any other sport. Basketball looks better and cleared than it once did, but we still have the same camera angle (which is inconsistent depending on the stadium) and half of the games aren’t even broadcasted in 1080p yet.

Complaints about football from non sports fans are usually about how many whistles and stoppages there are. But with extremely high quality tech and great TV directors, they can fill in the dead space easily with stellar shots of coaches actually doing things and closeups of players.

Go back and watch a game from even 5-6 years ago and even since then the quality has improved dramatically. Saying that you feel like you’re at the game isn’t an exaggeration and coupled with the action of a game compared to another sport like baseball (which also looks incredible on tv now) it’s easy to lock in.

The NBA’s broadcasts are not innovative and the high camera angle and picture quality are inconsistent from stadium to stadium and network to network. The amount of times I put on a game and the angle just doesn’t work for me is far too high.

The NBA needs to capitalize on the boom of high tech equipment and actually attempt to innovate their TV product and improve quality standards across the board.
