When r/Bitcoin moderators began censoring content and banning users they disagreed with, r/btc became a community for free and open crypto discussion. This happened long before the creation of Bitcoin Cash. Today, r/btc users can discuss any Bitcoin-related topic without fear of moderator retaliation, while r/Bitcoin and r/CryptoCurrency are still heavily censored. Over the years /r/btc became community of historians & torchbearers, preservers of Satoshi's Bitcoin for future generations.

Reading through comments and I’ve seen a lot of people saying the Tuchel sacking was “classic Chelsea”, typical for the club, or short-sighted. In the following post I’ll try and prove that this is not the case.

I want to point out that Boehly really is not the reactionary type of owner some are making him out to be. And that’s not my opinion, it’s an accepted truth.

As a baseball fan, I can tell you confidently he is the best owner in the league by some margin. Hopefully this helps some get a better picture of who he is:

  1. LA Dodgers Success

Before taking over, the Dodgers were considered one of the worst run organizations in MLB. In fact, the league itself assumed day-to-day control nearing the end of the prior owner’s run because they were so concerned about how the club was being run. Sound familiar?

Regarding on-field struggles, the Dodgers had made the playoffs a mere 6 times, and hadn’t made it past the 2nd round, in more than 20 years. An embarrassing string of history for one of the largest markets in America.

However, they found immediate success following the change in ownership. Not only have they qualified for the playoffs in every year since his purchase, they are well on track to their 4th world series appearance in the last 6 years.

2) Financial Backing and Long-Term Planning

Following the club’s return to success, Boehly negotiated a massive TV deal (> $8 billion at the time) which he used to invest in payroll, scouting, analytic departments, stadium, etc.

Not only have the Dodgers eclipsed the NY Yankees (the 2nd most valuable sports franchise in the world) in terms of salary spending, they consistently have the best or one of the best prospect pools in MLB. This is even more impressive when you consider that many of these prospects are traded for well-established players, and that in the American sports system, the better your team is the worse off you are when it comes to drafting more prospects.

This illustrates his massive investment in the long-term success of the club. Unlike “Moneyball”, which was a method used by small market teams to compete or have above-average seasons, he has effectively beat the system. Not only are his players the best, but so are his prospects, and the team is so good at finding new prospects each year that they can afford to trade them for high value players on a yearly basis.

3) Potential Impact on Chelsea

It’s no surprise that Chelsea has garnered a lot of American support in the past few years following the club’s recent success. Along with that, football has been the fastest growing sport in America for the past decade+. I would not be shocked at all to see him work out a similar deal with an American broadcasting company which could potentially net Chelsea billions of dollars in revenue.

Seeing as he is a businessman first, I assume this was his main incentive for wanting to buy the club in the first place. And I also assume his plan for Chelsea is similar to that of the Dodgers, where he will invest heavily in the youth development of the club. Only instead of having to play by the American sports system’s rules, where he would have to negotiate a trade of players, he will have the opportunity to sell these players to buy whoever he wants (and is willing to come).

4) Conclusion

One final note - the manager for LA, Dave Roberts, has been with the club for 6 years now. It’s easy to not get fired when your team is having success, but I can assure you this man is an idiot. I can count 10+ managers I’d rather have leading my team than him, yet the Dodgers have stuck by his side throughout all the criticism. He’s made costly errors that have arguably lost them playoff games, and was kept on as manager after losing back to back world series (they finally broke through in 2020 and won their first WS in more than 30 years).

I’m not saying that firing Tuchel was the right or wrong call, but I do want to emphasize that this man is not some out of his league nimrod that waltzed into this job. He surely has a plan, and based on his history of success, I would not bet against him.
