Do you think the crypto gaming narrative is done just like the metaverse one? by Sylerb in CryptoCurrency

Not necessarily, but we need big studies to work on it. AAA games are probably the way to go.

Advice and discussion on trading and withdrawal fees [SERIOUS] by ZestycloseProfessor9 in CryptoCurrency

[–]hex_peson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check this site: https://withdrawalfees.com/It will give you a better idea on the fees for each coin, in multiple exchanges.

So what you can do here is:

  1. From kucoin, trade your BTC to something with very low fees
  2. withdraw that coin to OKX (or some other exchange with BTC low fees)
  3. Trade it back to BTC and withdraw it.

OKX also supports Bitcoin's lightning network, so you can withdraw for 0$ fee but, that's not something you can withdraw to a hardware wallet.

Now, keeping the funds in an exchange is not recommended, but instead of constantly withdrawing to Ledger, maybe you could accumulate some X amount, and then withdraw once and for all. That should save you some fees since they are fixed, and not based on transaction size/amount.

How does a ‘cold wallet work’ by Borderlineadam in CryptoCurrency

[–]hex_peson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a crypto address you have two things:

  • The address (public) which you share with other people so they can send you funds.
  • And the private key of that address, which only you have, allows you to spend funds from your addresses. Not all software shows it to the user, but all your private keys are derived from your seed phrase.

The address (public) that you share with other people so they can send you funds.e you the address + private key. You can use the latter anytime you want to spend your funds. You just need a wallet that allows you to spend from private keys. There are plenty.

Instead of "paper wallet generator", you can also create a wallet with any software (Exodus, MetaMask, etc..) and then print the seed phrase and keep it somewhere safe. Just make sure to do that on an offline device that has never touched the internet.

How does a ‘cold wallet work’ by Borderlineadam in CryptoCurrency

[–]hex_peson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A cold wallet is a wallet that's not connected to the internet. It comes in different forms:

  • Paper wallets( your private keys printed)
  • Hardware wallets (devices which you plug to your phone/computer and transact from)
  • Using a Desktop wallet like Electrum for example. You can have one wallet connected to the internet and another one in a computer that never touched the internet. You sign the transaction in the offline computer, and then broadcast it from the online computer.

And yes they're pretty secure. By order:

  • Hardware wallets are probably the best, especially if you're going to be spending on a regular basis. Very secure and you don't have to worry about much (clipboard hijacking, malwares, etc.) because any transaction you make from ther software will need to be confirmed from the device itself (by pushing a button).

  • Paper wallets are fine, but as soon as you spend from them, you should assume that whatever device you used to transact from has been compromised, therefore, it's not safe to use it anymore once you spend from it.

  • A cold wallet with Electrum is fine, but less convenient (requires two devices, you have to do some extra work by sending the TXID while signed, etc.) and it also works with BTC only (or Litecoin for the Electrum-ltc version).

Thodex CEO arrested in Turkey after 2 years on the run by BeingMe007 in CryptoCurrency

He actually got arrested in Albania a few months ago. But he got extradited and detained in Turkey today.

He took 2 billion dollars. Hopefully, people get their money back. AFAIK, they only managed to find 13 million in a Maltan exchange so far.

A site that prompts MetaMask as soon as you visit it... what could go wrong...

In all seriousness, no, you should stay away from it. This doesn't look legit at the slightest.

No site, should ever (and I mean never ever) ask you to make a deposit, before they let you withdraw.
