To be technically correct, India's Collegium system for the appointment of judges isn't the 'law of the land', since it isn't sanctioned by any actual law of the land. Even an American sociologist in Sydney can see that. But English is a subtle language.

This is funny. But it's also indicative of the low level of knowledge of India in the West. It's why mendacious narratives about "democratic backsliding" and "religious repression" are taken seriously. Why people push mendacious narratives in the first place is another question.
