A long, long time ago in the early days of the year of our chaos gods 2017, a user by the name /u/NerdyOrDirty wrote a post discussing the effects the moon has on the Crimson Tide. It was a well beloved post. That got me thinking. There's a type of moon called the blood moon. What color is blood? Red. What is another type of red? Crimson. Maybe Alabama plays well under the blood moon because people have a lot of blood and the blood moon effects their blood. So I decided to go back to Alabama's first season in 1892 to see how well they did during games up to six days before and after a blood moon. I chose this for obvious reasons. The following games are Alabama's games during any blood moon anywhere on the planet. Games bolded and italicized are games that fell on the actual date of the blood moon.
So first of all, a blood moon is a lunar eclipse or when the earth moves between the sun and the moon.
There are three types of lunar eclipse:
Now there’s one key part you need to know and that is that the Earth’s shadow has two portions, the penumbra and the umbra. The umbra is the totally dark part. No light gets through this portion. It’s the area directly behind the center and guards where no defenders should ever get. It’s the pocket essentially. The penumbra is the outer portion of the shadow. This portion still get’s partial sunlight. The outer areas of the pocket around the edge where the tackles have some leeway with defensive ends. It’s flexible.
A total lunar eclipse means the moon is entirely in Earth’s shadow in the umbra. Super easy to understand. A partial lunar eclipse means it is part in the umbra, part in the penumbra. Also super easy to understand. A penumbral lunar eclipse means its at least partially in the penumbra. So imagine a field goal looks like it goes directly over the top of the upright but its actually ever so slightly inside the upright. The kick is still good, and it still counts as a blood moon.

Alabama has played 63 times under a blood moon and have posted a dominant 53-10 record. On games that fell on the day of the blood moon, they are 7-0.

Mississippi State should stop playing Alabama since they're 0-6 against them during the Blood Moon.

I have way too much time on my hands.
Interestingly enough the Crimson Tide are 22-7 during total eclipses so whatever dark ritual they are performing in order to win is wearing them out if it is too close to the actual game day. They still won a lot, so it’s not like they’re completely failing, but maybe that blood moon hangover hits a little hard sometimes.
Clearly the blood moon has an effect on the Alabama Crimson Tide. There are two logical explanations. One is that the football team gathers one week before the blood moon to sacrifice a virgin to their god Shezmu who vanquishes their heathen foes by tearing them limb from limb. The other logical explanation is that because they play as the crimson tide and since humans are full of red blood, it allows them to play better than their opponents who are not properly named. Another wild and baseless theory that has absolutely no roots in reality is that Alabama is just historically good at football.
