Last played during the early SL days, dabbling around with several casters and healers but really not healing all that often. Played FFXIV rather intensively for the past year and a half doing high end content but thought eh I’ll wander back here for DF.

Rolled a level 10 Vulpera holy priest. May as well Re level, get used to things again, pick a straightforward, reactive healer. Can’t be that hard right?

Spec’d holy, got my heirloom gear locked in, and queued up. Landed in smugglers run (or den? I don’t remember). Everything was kinda rough from here out. Aside from the shield and flash heal, i didn’t have much to heal with. We managed past the first boss and onto the second one (the pair). When it started my tank died within 2 GCDs, with a pre pull shield and also spamming flash heal. Others went down similarly quickly. One of the dps said “man what is up with healers tonight?”. I was a little shocked but thought eh maybe i am missing something; I explained I’m level 10, don’t have a massive toolkit, and was spamming everything i had. If i was forced to move, I’d try and use a shield to keep my GCD rolling and keep people healed. I didn’t really have time to DPS because folks were eating some serious damage. Eventually the dps dude left after telling me “not to queue as healer then because it’s a waste of everyone’s time”.

If it’s my fault, I’m not really sure how to play more optimally. It’s not like i had a ton of tools to heal with, and i kept both my shield and flash heal basically on cooldown - but people were dropping too quickly. My assumption is either they weren’t defensively cooling down effectively, or maybe they were standing in mechanics and expecting me to just deal with it, but am i missing something glaring here? Is the scaling all weird since they were all levels 50ish and i was level 10? Should i not try to heal at this low a level, til i have more tools?

I’m no expert but i do heal regularly and know principles of MMO healing etc. just trying to figure out whether the problem was indeed me.

Anyhow, thanks in advance for any insight.
