I’m pinning this tweet: As much of a mess as Liz Truss was, in January 2023, Speaker Kevin McCarthy, leading a slim House majority packed with several dozen lunatics, will ask her to hold his beer.

The “why” piece is really what gets me. Because you were miffed that the wedding was closed to press? Because you need a “both sides” narrative? Because the WH press corps instinctively believes all WH teams lie? The lack of self awareness on this one is really weird.

My read is that you and some of your colleagues on the WH beat have manufactured a “lie,” and in so doing, misled your readers. The wedding was closed to press. As the WH said it would be. A fashion magazine got a photo shoot 2 days prior. Who is fibbing here? And why?
Quote Tweet
I spent four years covering the Trump WH and two years covering the Biden WH. What’s fascinating is that they both lie, albeit in v different ways. Trump team was shameless, whereas Biden team is too cute by half. twitter.com/katierogers/st…

The White House press corps, or some very prominent members thereof, are really disgracing themselves this week over a wedding they had no right to attend and which *no reporters* were present at. Far from holding the WH accountable, they are in fact misleading the public.

something profoundly hollow and morally degenerate about pretending to care about these murdered peoples’ humanity while lashing on another dollop of the hate that motivated the man who killed them.

2/ I think everyone agrees Tesla stock price was greatly overvalued. And this decline is in a more general market downturn. But Tesla isn’t like most other tech stocks. A substantial amount of the downturn is tied to Musks being a freak and not being focused on Tesla.

I’m hearing from lots of folks who follow me that, much to their surprise, Twitter stopped them from following me. Don’t know what going on, but I’m still here & I’m still tweeting. Follow me again. Let’s keep following each other no matter what’s going on. Please retweet this.

Patrons rushing a gunman in an LGBTQ bar during a drag show, disarming & pinning him within minutes is a hell of a lot more bravery than the heavily armed impotence of multiple law enforcement agencies in Texas who stood around listening while children were murdered.

Elon Musk promised that the issue of Trump’s reinstatement would go before a committee. Now he’s making such decisions unilaterally. How can advertisers trust this man’s promises?

It really makes a mockery of the idea Roberts has a deep concern for the integrity of the judiciary. He would clearly have fired any lowly court clerk who leaked an opinion for political gain. But if a justice did it? Eh, let's just forget all this ever happened.

This Times story about SCOTUS is not just obviously incredibly damning for Alito, it looks really bad for Roberts too. After treating the Dobbs leak as a serious threat to the Court's legitimacy, he got the letter with these allegations and then sat on it and covered it all up.

Ford pardoned Nixon, knowing he would never again be in a position to abuse presidential power again. It was arguably the wrong decision, but that was the context. Trump committed these crimes *after* leaving office and is running again. Different context.
Quote Tweet
For the good of the nation, Ford pardoned Nixon. For the good of the nation, Biden should pardon Trump.

They think we’re stupid. Jeff Sessions appointed the last special counsel. Jeff Sessions is a Republican.

Whitaker: Here we go again. This is the left's favorite to tool, to appoint a special counsel.. This is a way for Garland to solely control the fate of Trump’s legal cases and I think it’s probably the most partisan move he’s made

John Roberts’ tenure as Chief Justice will likely be remembered by historians as one of the worst. An era when the court lost popular legitimacy through a combination of intellectual dishonesty (originalism) corruption (Alito, Thomas), Christian nationalism masquerading as law.

I’ve been followed by, had my posts commented/engaged by, people who are infinitely more accomplished than I, way smarter, people I really respect. But if I need to single out one favorite interaction: replied to me once. That was a head rush.

I was under the impression that White House cooperation with congressional oversight committees is an optional exercise. Wasn’t that how it worked from January 2019 through January 2021?

It has a lot to say about Lincoln’s spiritual journey, but also his keen ability to recognize and harness the power of an evangelical majority — the first president to do so. He was a keen political actor and understood how to use biblical vernacular in politics.

The book examines the way in which evangelical Christianity helped Northerners make sense of the war, and how the war itself reshaped American Protestantism. Abraham Lincoln is a central organizing figure, but the book is more broadly about religion and politics.
