I have only been in Athens a couple of days, and I recognise this is a short amount of time to make an assessment of the city, but I have to say, I have never disliked a city in this short amount of time as much as I have Athens.

The Acropolis and museums are amazing. There is no doubting that, but the city itself I would say is horrible. The entire place is covered in shit graffiti and the buildings look like they’re crumbling down, and that’s the good suburbs. The bad suburbs are the same just with junkies everywhere. It feels seriously unsafe.

The food seems to consist of a million souvlaki/gyros restaurants. They taste fine, but do not have any unique or interesting flavour you get when traveling to most countries.

We have had 3 scam attempts in the past 24 hours, one being at a restaurant. I’ve had plenty of scams tried on me in my time, but not at a restaurant, and it was on the main strip.

About half the meals have included waiters that seemed pissed off for us wanting to eat, and then asking for tips.

I honestly cannot wait to leave this city. I feel sorry for all the hard working honest people here that have to put up with this place.
