The Tonight Show is an American late-night talk show broadcast from the Rockefeller Center in New York City and airing on NBC since 1954. It is the world's longest-running talk show, and the longest running, regularly scheduled entertainment program in the United States. It is the third-longest-running show on NBC, after only the news-and-talk shows Today and Meet the Press.
Over the course of more than 60 years, The Tonight Show has undergone only minor title changes. It aired under the name Tonight for several of its early years, eventually settling on The Tonight Show after the seating of long-time host Johnny Carson in 1962. In later decades, network programmers, advertisers, and the show's announcers would refer to the show by including the name of the host; for example, it is currently announced as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. In 1957, the show briefly tried a more news-style format. It has otherwise remained a talk show throughout its run.
The Tonight Show began broadcasting in 1954. It has had six official hosts, beginning with Steve Allen (1954–57), followed by Jack Paar (1957–62), Johnny Carson (1962–92), Jay Leno (1992–2009, 2010–14), Conan O'Brien (2009–10), and Jimmy Fallon (2014–present). It has had several recurring guest hosts, a practice especially common during the Paar and Carson eras.
The Merrick & Rosso Show is an Australian comedy television series which airs on The Comedy Channel, which premiered on 2 October 2008. It is hosted by Tim Ross and Merrick Watts, who are better known as comedy duo Merrick and Rosso. Their breakfast radio show is broadcast on Nova 96.9.
The comedy duo have also previously hosted the television shows Merrick and Rosso Unplanned on the Nine Network and the The B Team for Network Ten. They also hosted Planet Merrick and Rosso and Super Planet Merrick and Rosso for The Comedy Channel. Merrick Watts has also appeared in the comedy series The Hollowmen and Thank God You're Here.
The show also appears on a six-day delay on FOX8.
On 28 January 2009, The Comedy Channel approved a second season for the series, which began airing on 2 April 2009.
The Comedy Channel may refer to:
Merrick and Rosso are an Australian comedy duo, Merrick Watts and Tim Ross. The duo began in stand up comedy and first came together when they teamed up for a one off comedy show in 1996. They are now known for their syndicated radio programs, network and pay TV shows, stand up comedy tours, comedy DVDs and books.
Merrick and Rosso first came to prominence performing a weekly guest spot on the drive-time program on Triple J radio in 1998. They became full-time presenters for that segment for the next two years; regulars on their show included Myf Warhurst and Peter Helliar. In 2001, they moved to newly launched commercial radio station Nova 96.9 for the breakfast radio shift (6am to 9am). They remained in this time slot from the station's launch until the show's end. Sami Lukis at one time served as a co-host until she moved to Brisbane at the end of 2007. In 2008, actress Kate Ritchie began to co-host the show. In 2009, previous co-host Lukis started co-hosting a breakfast program on Triple M in Sydney, directly competing with Merrick and Rosso. On 10 November 2009, Ross announced his impending departure from the Merrick, Rosso & Kate breakfast show. Kate Ritchie also announced her departure from the show. Watts planned to continue on radio. Ross's departure ends an 11-year radio partnership with Watts. 4 December 2009 was Merrick and Rosso's final radio show as a duo on Nova 969. It was a tearful affair during which tributes were paid to them by some of Australia's finest comedians including Peter Helliar and Judith Lucy and celebrities such as Tom Williams and Ray Hadley. Snippets of the duo's favourite prank calls were played, as well as an audio montage of highlights from the past nine years. This was also Kate Ritchie's final show and she was equally commended for her contribution to the breakfast show.
