TNG is lucky to have survived— by Governmentwatchlist in startrek

To sell a show for off network syndication its traditionally 100 episodes, that gives you five days a week only repeating an episode 1.5 times a year.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broadcast_syndication#Off-network_syndication_2

ToS was arguably more successful in that type of syndication over the years than in its original run on NBC, but TNG was a different kind of syndication and never had a home at any network in particular.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broadcast_syndication#Dramatic_first-run_syndicated_programs

Then Warner and Paramount debuted their own broadcast networks taking over a lot of local affiliates, with Voyager being a flagship show. Between that an all sorts of original cable programming that could be rerun on networks at off hours, that kinda killed first run syndication for scripted programming entirely. I remember in the early 00s whatever station ran TNG and Babylon 5 on saturday afternoons switched mostly to Stargate SG1 and Farscape.

I was thinking that, but youd want the computer facing the stairs for early warning, but that would put the window behind you for major glare...

Theory: Galactus sends Silver Surfer throughout the universe looking for planets to feed on. But Galactus isn’t feeding on just the planet but really the celestial developing in the planets core. by thisismycleanuser in marvelstudios

Yup, and iirc planets that are celestial eggs eventually evolve powered sentient life (x-gene) as a sort of immune system to protect it. Before it hatches and everyone dies.

I dont remember what was up with Eternals/Deviants or Inhumans in Earth-X tho...

Might need to see this cartoon.

I highly recommend the whole show, its the counterpart to the seminal Batman TAS. Really the quintessential version of a lot of characters for a lot of fans.

Thats great, but thats another problem, S03 of this series never got a disc release.

Physical media often isnt even an option anymore. Have crappy internet but a bigass TV and want to wait to watch the latest Star Wars series on UHD BluRay? Nope.

Heck theres stuff i love enough i WANT to buy it, but is only available on DVD and not bluray \cough*)The Orville\cough*). If im going to have to watch 1080p web-dls anyway for it not to look like crap on my big TV, whats the point of even buying it then.

Also first run syndication that gave us TNG and DS9 ran is completely different from the modern TV business. There were a LOT of shows that wouldntve made it on network primetime that managed 4-5 seasons somehow on random affiliates on saturday afternoons. TNG and DS9 were niche but legit good to be remembered as more than corny nostalgia like most other shows under that distribution model.

Either a random crew of yellow near human species or whatever gas leak on the ship that killed them turned them yellow in the process. Live guy outside seemed only slightly jaundiced, so probably the latter.

We know if a propulsion tank overflows itll flood a ship with poisonous gas...

You could actually do that with an ATMOS audio program, since the dialog and explosions will have their own channels, but if you have an ATMOS system at home you probably have everything balanced enough that you dont have to.

But if im watching on something shitty i assume the streaming services will save their bandwidth and just send me 2.0 than send me ATMOS to custom downmix.

me_irl by cunnyslam in me_irl

[–]Cyno01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but i bet thats way less of an issue than people trying to play the surround track on stereo speakers and losing three channels entirely.

me_irl by cunnyslam in me_irl

[–]Cyno01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is when it doesnt mix. People have the netflix app setting set to surround sound, the chromecast settings set to surround sound, and the tv settings are set to surround sound because they think itll make their shitty TV speakers sound better for some reason.

But then something along that chain only does passthrough so theyre only getting the L and R from a 5.1 mix and the little bit of bleedover from C.

I have two 5.1 systems and a 2.0 system that i watch a lot of the same content from the same sources on all of them. Aside from outliers like Tenet and stuff, im convinced 90% of complaints about having to ride the volume control to hear dialog are from people who have their shit set wrong somewhere.

Think about how many people have their picture settings set completely wrong, and thats even more obvious than missing audio channels.

Yeah, people have the netflix app set to surround sound, have the chromecast set to surround sound, have the tv set to surround sound, but actually only have shitty TV speakers, of course its going to sound wrong. Set everything to stereo
