Bitcoin is the currency of the Internet: a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Unlike traditional currencies such as dollars, bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. As such, it is more resistant to wild inflation and corrupt banks. With Bitcoin, you can be your own bank.

When r/Bitcoin moderators began censoring content and banning users they disagreed with, r/btc became a community for free and open crypto discussion. This happened long before the creation of Bitcoin Cash. Today, r/btc users can discuss any Bitcoin-related topic without fear of moderator retaliation, while r/Bitcoin and r/CryptoCurrency are still heavily censored. Over the years /r/btc became community of historians & torchbearers, preservers of Satoshi's Bitcoin for future generations.

The website New Liberty Standard was the first website to offer Bitcoin purchases. You were able to buy and sell Bitcoin through Paypal. The person who created the "exchange" basically priced Bitcoin at the average cost to mine Bitcoin.

This got me to thinking about the first time I heard of Bitcoin. I was a freshman in college and a computer science major. It was Fall of 2010. I was in the lab when a Sophomore csci major asked me if I wanted to help him set up the ~35 computers in the lab for mining Bitcoin. His plan was to mine every night after classes ended until 8am when classes began again and 24 hours over the weekend.

Me, thinking it was a waste of time with Bitcoin being like $.06, said no. The guy ended up setting up the computers himself, mining ~2,000 BTC, and in 2013 when the price hit $1,000, sold half his stack to become a millionaire in college.

Where were you the first time you heard of Bitcoin and what was the price per coin?

Okay guys so last year as some of you might remember I took out a 40k loan to buy bitcoin here is an update on how it’s going.

Obviously first off I have to eat a bit of humble pie… yes I was one of those dudes who thought it was going to go to 200k and obviously it didn’t it went the other way.

However, instead of sulking and beating myself up I got back to the fiat mine. I run my own business and put all the time I could into that to try and pay off my loan asap. What ended up happening which was a blessing in disguise was that for the last 12 months my business has never performed better. This has allowed me to finally pay off the loan and be debt free with my bitcoin loan.

Now what did I learn? That it is never as good as it seems and never as bad as it seems. I’ve learnt that hard work trumps all and that you really have to put everything into something if you want it to succeed. By being forced in a way to work my butt off to pay off the loan I have reached a new limit with my business and realised in some way what my true potential could be and I intend to keep pushing that limit.

Some here might call me an idiot and that’s fine however I wouldn’t change it for the world as I learnt some very valuable lessons which I am extremely grateful for.

Will I consider another bitcoin loan? Yes quite possibly but certainly not doing a bull run 😂 thanks for reading legends :)

Ps: My conviction for bitcoin has never been stronger 💪

The metric of illiquid supply defines how much of the bitcoin supply has not moved over a certain period because of that its often labeled as the ultimate “HODL metric“ by on-chain analyst. But before get a look on it here is a warning that on-chain analysis of crypto is a very big Experiment and even some analysts themselves are not sure what kind of influence on-chain metrics have on the crypto price action as most metrics are more long-term orientated. So it would not be wise to base your financial decisions off solely such metrics, but now lets dive in:

The illiquid supply is based off the amount of bitcoin that has not been moved out of a wallet and that over a certain time period and in relation to the total supply. The most famous one is the one-year illiquid supple that has just again made a new ATH as it has recently been sky-rocketing this year, which is weird as the price did the complete opposite…

Here a picture of the illiquid supply in relation to the BTC price.

Illiquid Supply by Glassnode Studios (daily time-frame)

So we can clearly see a pattern that the illiquid supply falls during bull runs as many holders start to take profits and it rises during bear markets as many start to hodl for the long-term. The interesting thing here is that the rise of the illiquid supply usually happens just before the last leg down of the bear markets as in 2018 but now it was different… We saw a rise of the illiquid supply last year in December (the BTC price was $49k) when arguably many were sure we are still in a bull market.

To sum up, while this metric may not be the best to predict any short-term prices (as most indicators, even TA, are not). Though this metric is good to view the change of sentiment between “profit-taking in a bull run“ and “conviction in a bear market“, to some extent.
