Geologists explain why Tasmania is different
We always thought Tasmania was different, and now geology can explain why. New discoveries from Tasmania’s oldest rocks at Rocky Cape reveal that about 1.5 billion years ago Tasmania was not part of Australia, but wedged between two other continents. Jess needed to head back to Australia to have her 12 week Ultrasound so as we awaited the results we had a bit of time to spare so we decided to finally head out to Tasmania, the little island off the coast of Australia.
First up we flew into Launceston to pick up our car rental and hit the road as we made our way towards Cradle Mountain National Park.
There we checked into Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge: https://fave.co/2D4JNUn
Our time in Cradle Mountain included heading into the national park, having warm fires and hot chocolates as well as heading into the Tasmanian Devil reserve.

Our travels around Australia continue as we call Tasmania home for 2+ months in 2021.
We explored all around Tassie, using Dover in the Huon Valley and Burnie in the north-west as our bases, and hiring cars to visit some of the state’s must-see destinations.
In this video, I showcase the incredible Tasmanian landscapes, some of the wildlife we encountered, a few national parks and plenty more. Whether you are an armchair tourist, planning a trip to Tasmania or just want to admire Australia’s natural beauty – I hope there’s something in this video for you.
We hope you enjoy it and welcome your Tassie travel tips or any feedback on what’s been created.

ABOUT US
In July 2019, my wife (Nat/Nathalie) and I quit our jobs, deciding we wanted to start our own businesses as we travel the world. We're both Australians who have spent July 2015 – July 2019 living in the UK and USA. I've been working for the Australian Tourism Board and Nat has been a primary/elementary school teacher.
Follow our journey as I document our life on the road! I'll show you the places we live, what it's like, the food, costs incurred, as well as what we loved and some of the challenges we faced. I'll also provide an insight into our businesses and how we go about growing them and funding our journey.
My videos are intended for friends, family, aspiring digital nomads and those curious about the locations we live. I have no experience in creating videos or editing them and am learning as I go. Please feel free to drop me a note if you have any questions, feedback or suggestions on what should be covered.

We always thought Tasmania was different, and now geology can explain why. New discoveries from Tasmania’s oldest rocks at Rocky Cape reveal that about 1.5 billion years ago Tasmania was not part of Australia, but wedged between two other continents. The geology of north-western Tasmania may have more to do with North America and Antarctica than it does with the rest of the Australian mainland.
